I'm going to build a Man Cave! I need all pics and any ideas from you guys as we (me and bh.com buddies) go on this journey of turning a flowery bedroom into a man cave.

The Funds start at Zero... but hey I got the green light... that's a start. :D

So post your pics and I'll post some of what I'll be working with when I get this room cleaned out... I've got to do floors, walls, pretty much everything. So Maybe we can look back on this thread and a few years and be proud. But bare in mind the room is only roughly 13 X 13, and we're on a low budget, so let's not get too carried away.

Just to throw ideas out there for myself... I've already decided I want a camo couch or love seat, a archery work bench, and a nice flat screen on the wall eventually.

I'm going to be tearing up carpet and stripping wallpaper first and foremost. The carpet was glued in this room, There should be decent hardwood floors underneath the carpet... if so how would one go about removing this glue? I'm guessing removing the glue would require a manner that would leave the hardwood in need of refinishing also?

Anyway this is just a start, have at it guys, and please lots of pics... the wife will be judging... she's got her 2 cents on this too. ;)

Unless you can dissolve the glue somehow, I'm guessing the floor will need refinished.

An antler chandelier(sp?) would be pretty sweet, but they are kinda pricey... Maybe make your own :tu:

    Bear skin rug :D

We have some pine tongue and groove panelling that looks pretty good, and was real easy to put up.

Im sure there will be some better ideas soon lol

Pine tung and grove up the wall about 4 foot and camo wallpaper the rest of the way. looks really nice. also with the glue it will have to be sanded. if you do this then the floor will need to be refinished. good news is that you can usually rent a power stripper and get it done in a day. let me know if you need help or do know how to do it.

What look are you going for? Not sure if you've been in my house or not but I've got a room that is "mine" in the house. It's a place for my deer/turkey/duck mounts, but it's not the "lodge fill" no plank walls or camo etc (i'll snap some pics). I've got deer lamps from cabelas, framed hunting related artwork, 56" LCD that is on a a stand I built myself.

13x13 really isn't that much to work with...

A flat screen is obviously a must. Actually multiple flat screens should be a must, with 1 large in the center, for multiple game watching. As well as comfortable seating. A large sectional would be nice.

A built in bar area should be a requirement, with sink, mini beer fridge (or full size if you have the room). Maybe some beer on tap? Yes. Microwave would come in handy in the bar area.

First if the carpet is glued Either refinish it ( lots of time not much money) or lay a laminate over it ( looks nice but can be costly but not that much time to install.)

I log sided mine. fake log siding, It's real wood run through a mill to have a log effect to it. Must have TV, Comfy couch, bar.

I think I kind of want to go for the "Lodge" look... I really like the idea of the planks about 4' and then just regular painted drywall from there up... I would love to plank the ceiling also... but we might be getting to money there...

I know 13 x 13 isn't much, but I have a small 1 1/2 story house from the 40's or 50's. And this room is really the only feasible place for such a sanctuary.

Brandon, I've been your living room brandon at that time your mounts were in there, right before we left for Kentucky... but haven't seen your "man cave".

I'm going to tear the carpet up soon, I guess I'll wait till then to asses the floors.

Be careful with too much wood in that small of a room. You don't want it looking all dark and gloomy in your man cave.

OK guys, don't judge me by this room...lol... This room has been nothing but a storage room for years now. We got it cleaned out, and I snapped a few pics of this charming room.(Insert sarcasm smiley)

So this is what we are working with:

They carpet also seems to be regular tack strip and staples, I just tore a small corner so hopefully that doesn't change, It's coming up in the next couple of days or so.

And to give you a idea of "Style" here's a pic of the living room... I don't want to copy it, but I want it to kind of flow... if that makes sense... I'm no interior designer.

I have never saw electrical outlets in the baseboard like that before....

Have fun with that wall paper... If you are lucky it wont be the same type of wall paper that was in the kitchen and master bathroom in my house when we bought it.

It took me days to get the paper off those walls. Wasn't fun what so ever.

    God...that carpet...and that wallpaper...it's just...horrible.

And you seriously need to add some color to your living room. Too much brown and beige. The little gay guy in me wants to completely re-style your living room.

Lol... I am completely happy with my living room, seriously, I honestly figured the white trim would add good balance to the room, and the wife likes it...soooo... ;)

But I've never had any outside opinions... so fire away... let him out... temporarily of course.

Just add some color. It's just all brown. Brown floor, brown walls, brown furniture, brown lamps. Adding a solid or minimally patterned colored rug in front of the couch would add color and a bit of warmth to the room.

Adding more colorful pictures to the walls would help as well.

Maybe change the curtains to a lighter cream color?

Just some suggestions. Obviously style is very subjective.

I cringe at the thought of removing that wallpaper. Hopefully it won't be too bad for you.

Edit: I would seriously consider moving those outlets up off the floor, especially if you decide to have a wetbar in there.

Don't be scared of the wallpaper. You are going to LOVE me for providing you with this link. :D

I actually watched this very episode a few months back (at work :busted:). Anyway, check it out. I've never used this product personally but if it works as shown....have fun!!!!

The stuff I used took the wallpaper right off as well... It was the goo left stuck to the drywall from the wallpapers adhesive that I fought with.

Never really thought of that. So I guess that product saves some time but you're still stuck with the adhesive no matter what?

These walls are all plaster... and I'm laying my paycheck on the line in saying there's no insulation behind them either.... It's a very cold room, and when we tore out the living room walls before we moved in... no insulation.

So if the wallpaper is too much of a pain, I may have some destructive fun. I was going to drill holes in the plaster and spray insulation, then go over everything with a "powder" based sheetrock mixture... I have no idea what it's called, but we had it done in our hallway.
