So based on the other thread, I was planning on purchasing this disc.

    I own a Kawasaki Mule 4010 UTV.

    So my question is:

That disc system has a width of 44" and the width of my UTV is 58.5". Is this a problem being the tires are wider than the disc system? Or will the tire tracks left not be a big deal at all?

    Thanks.

I don't think it will matter much. I have a Groundhog, which fits between the tires on an ATV. No issues on the locations I've used it. The nice thing about a smaller implement is you can get it into a few more out of the way areas.

Like I said in the PM Brad, my only concern is the tires packing down the soil the disc does not hit on its final passes. I may be off though.

That is my concern as well. But maybe it isn't a big deal in a food plot for wild game. On the other hand if you were a crop farmer it probably would be a big deal. Mabye the plot would still grow where the tire tracks are? No idea.

I think it will depend on the soil and how hard it packs. At our cabin its clay. I know that where there were tire tracks it was packed harder and it didn't grow as well.

I'll take that problem over my set up (myself, tiller, lawn more and fence drag) :D!

You'll be better than fine bud for simple food plots (IMO)!

Depending on what seed you plant, you actually want to cultipack before planting (clover, alfalpha, etc).

Again, depending on the soil and how wet it is. We cultipacked 2 food plots this past year at the cabin (clay) and one barely germinated. We had best results with loose soil and seeds laying on top.

This year I planted 4 plots of oats. I rototilled with a walk behind (last time), fertilized and planted with a walk behind broadcast spreader. Finally, I back draged the seeds into the soil with the bucket of my tractor. Seemed to work pretty good. I am on the look out for a 6' cultipacker. I'll modify a bigger one if I have to.

Usually it is better to have your implement cover your tire tracks but I'm sure the narrow disc will work just fine behind the Kawi.

Well I checked all over the place and the only place I see anything about them is on the goldenvalley website. They don't list any prices there. What does the GV36 cost and where can you get it?

I'm not excatly sure about the all in one design or that there isn't anything online about them from people that have used them.

It's not been a huge issue (tire to seed compression) for me. That said, I think you will learn tons this year and I predict more purchases and a heck of a great crop next year.

What have you bought so far? I haven't been online much lately.

I have not purchased anything yet. The reason is that I have a food plot "expert" coming in with a dozer to clear the trees, remove stumps, grade it, and turn up the virgin soil. He has offered to do the rest of the plot as well. But it is undetermined how much I am going to have him do and how much I am going to do. He might disc up the virgin soil and leave. He might do everything and my machine may not do a single thing. So I am waiting to see what I will be doing this year before I buy. I also think that will help to see what the actual soil looks like when he turns it up and if/how many rocks are in it. I have a good guess what the soil is but it would be nice to see it AT the location of the food plots if possible. So since I have someone coming in I might as well wait.

Next year the intent is for me to do 100% of the work.

I have the sprayer shown below picked out and should be buying that in May sometime right about the time I need to think about trail maintenance.

I can get everything this machine has separately for a lot less than $3600. That seems to be the problem with the plot master. The all in 1 implements just cost too much. But thanks.
