Not for me. Been buck only where my primary hunting land is, but I've been getting 1 antlerless to hunt in Marathon. This year I could buy a bonus tag for up North, but don't want to shoot does until I see the population numbers increase more.
I was up in Barnes earlier in July it was like the 90's up there every time we went somewhere you would see deer.
I hunt a small piece north of 64 that has a lot of deer in it's area. I will probably pick up a private land license. I agree with you that they gave waaaaaaayy too many tags out this year!
I live in Lincoln Cty. and have to disagree. There are lots of deer around this year. But they are in pockets. Some areas have few and others have to many. Just need to get out and scout to find those pockets of to many. With the uptic of logging in the area it should only get better in upcoming years. With the way of limited tags here past years I have not punched a tag in 5 years. Time to put meat in the freezer.
Yes the deer heard has finally made a decent comeback. No reason to start blasting does again so we end back to where we were 5 years ago. Just too many predotors
Last year (2016) the DNR issued a total of 1000 antlerless tags in Lincoln county. Year prior (2015) the DNR issued a total of 1000 anterless tags in Lincoln county. This year (2017) they are issuing a total of 6000 anterless tags in Lincoln county.
Of which only 600 are public the rest are private tags. I sat in on the CDAC meetings to help establish those quotas. The area biologist wanted a far higher public land quota. This spring I could have taken anyone into areas that were heavily browsed and will take years to recover. Deer in those areas if subjected to a hard winter will not live to see a spring thaw. Especially bucks dragged down from the rut. Car kills in Lincoln Cty. For June was higher than at anytime last fall during the rut and continues at a pace of 8-10 deer a week.
Hope hunters prove themselves capable of controlling and managing themselves. From the numbers I find, in Lincoln county they are making available double antlerless permits than was harvested last year. Oneida looks about 1 for each deer harvested last year. I don't they the idea that selling public and private will make much of a difference, since there is no way to know if private tag is being used on private land or not. Been interesting listening to hunters complain about the deer herd numbers being down so much, but in the next breath talking about how many does they shot because they didn't see bucks. Not realizing if they want more deer, they do need to leave does.
