Yeah, planting in the spring is a waste around here. A pure bulb type brassica plot here (northern Indiana) gets hammered...but often after deer season closes. Only years it truly gets hammered while hunting is still open is early winter weather hits...once the snow flies and the cold hits the brassica plots get just hit harder and harder. However, rest of the year (October/November and warmish December) the deer will browse it somewhat but not seek it at all. Mixing in oats/rye with it has become common practice for us. I'll even throw soybeans down with it not expecting pod production.
