When I read your post, it sounds to me that this is your justification? It is justified to you because it is your hobby and you can afford what you are spending. You are not spending buying Razor's or boating or golfing to the level of your friends because you don't justify spending like your friends do on those hobbies.

I justify my purchases to myself in most cases based, on cost and length of time. Similar to others. I'm not sure what I paid for my original LW stands. Say they were 400, over 10 years old and should last another 10...I'll take that any day. Same with the climbing sticks, etc.

I'm in need of a truck...and having a hard time buying new based on price and used...price/miles. Hard to justify in my mind.

I have a harder time justifying expensive purchases which may not last very long.

Related to the wife. As long as I am saving, paying bills, feeding the family, able to afford what we want...I can spend on hunting and fishing....and she can spend on whatever she is into. We never actually talk about specific purchases for hobbies.

Not justifying it, just giving example of how other people are spending their money. I'm not saying I'm spending on hunting in-lieu other things because I have other interest and hobbies as well like building AR rifles at times. I have every intention to buy a UTV when I have the discretionary funds for it. I used to golf quite a bit, but lost interest in it. I just sold my bass boat due to lack of use.
If I want something and I have the extra money for it, I buy it and I don't have buyers remorse. My only justification is that I want it.

Or friends with a fairly high debt to income ratio at least.

My hunting isn't expensive. My camo is 5 years old. My bow is 4 years old. I JUST bought new arrows this year. I buy muzzy broad heads on sale. Got a new stand with sticks last year. I probably have maybe 1500 bucks in my entire hunting setup. And it'll last me 10 years at least.

I think the only justification should be internally done depending on personal financial situations. Need/Want? Either is ok.

Someone mentioned taking the cost over 10 years. That is something that I've been taught by my father. Always look at things over 10 years. Good and Bad. Especially monthly costs. For example....cable/internet costs 150/month.....$18,000 over 10 years. Get rid of that bill and you can justify a new bow every year.

In regards to my wife and many others similar. She will never understand the craziness I possess for hunting, but she doesn't ask me to try to explain purchases. I don't ask about her purchases either. I have no idea why jewelry, clothing and shoes are so important. The same way she won't ever grasp my hunting obsession and why I like spending money on good equipment. It brings enjoyment for both of us....although different ways I guess.

I justify buying because of financials. Probably because that is what I do for a living too and I look at everything that way.

I don't really try to justify my expenses, but I do try to justify the cost of a particular item. Weighing the options of do I have to spend a certain amount or can I get something to work equally as well with spending less. If I have to spend top dollar I will, but I try not to. The friggin money tree I keep watering in my backyard won't grow.

Thats fine, it is kinda hard to keep track of those I have offended or irritated, so I tend to just assume everything is a shot.

    Being a DINK couple helps...
To her, I don't have to justify anything. I make almost 2x what she makes. When it comes to money we have a fairly strict DADT policy.

To myself; I just know that I can't spend it from the grave, and the memories I've made in a tree stand or at deer camp with the family are priceless.

    I don't play Golf.
I don't have a girl friend on the side or go to strip clubs.
Finally got my house paid off and a little nest egg put away so I buy what makes me happy. It's really the only thing I do besides work, so she really can't make a big of deal about it.

I have friends that play golf twice a week and their memberships alone are more than I could ever spend in a year and my wife hasn't bought fish, meat/elk or pork from a store in years.

I try to be frugal in other aspects of life so that I have the extra funds to spend on hobbies including hunting. In the last year i've spent more on hunting than any other hobby. I think I still spend quite a bit less than other hunters. I don't need a new bow every year. I don't need a $1000 in Sitka gear to sit in a tree stand. I just bought an XOP Strike Force climber but I shopped around for the best deal. I also buy used if possible.

I stopped trying to a long time ago. I don't have any other hobbies or interest that I have to spend much money on so I get what I need and most of what I want. Biggest thing is my wife can't wait until our house is finished so I can put all my hunting gear in one place.
