Why must people use "half" when talking deer ages?

    Wildlife is my major. My professors teach us to do it that way. End of story.

    Do they teach you to call them that in the spring and winter as well? I bet not... Since you are a professional in training, spread the correct word to these gentleman when they incorrectly use the .5 term.

    I add the half in there because it's closer to the correct answer. If someone asks me what time it is I'd say 3:14, not 3.15 or something....that's what it is. I am more particular about numbers than most people. It doesn't take me much longer to say 3.5 compared to 3. Somehow I've gotta catch up to the number of words a girl says in a day....might as well be talking about two and a half year old deer.

    I see your point. They are 3 in the spring/early summer. 1/2 in the fall.

    I think the reason it is taught as 1/2 's in schools is the only time they age deer is at check in stations during season.
