Why do we measure stuff down to the 1/8 of an inch.. Human nature to be precise.

I agree with Buckeye... I don't think any of us don't understand that in the fall a buck is 1/2 way through his year. The point is it's we aren't all biologists. Adding the half is kinda dumb IMO. Goal for season, don't add half to any buck I describe on video. Another goal for the season, shoot a bigger buck than Grant! #BOOM.

Because you figure you usually age deer based off when they were born which Is early summer here

I took biology, so I will continue to use the "half" when appropriate. Just makes sense. By the way, some of my food plots are 1 1/2 acre. Some are two.

This thread turned out to be dumb.5 because of those of you who disagree with me. Those of us who see how pointless it is to age deer with a half are awesome.5.

I get why 1.5, 2.5, 3.5, and so on can be confusing. I understand your frustration with this. However, based on spring birth of fawns deer truly are 1/2 year old during hunting season. Thus why people refer to them in 1/2 year increments.

If you ever hear someone talking about a deer like a woman does a baby, then thats too far. "Want to see some pics of a buck I've been watching. He's 20 months old." :nana:

Why do people call them .5's even in the spring and winter?

People call them .5's year around. That is what I think is, well, dumb. It would be different if people only called them .5's in like October and November... But they don't. Most, not all, call them .5's year around when talking about them.

Not really dumb, just a more specific manner of aging. Technically, the deer we HUNT are generally a half a year past their birthday. I suppose we could re-classify them as ROOKIE, then 2nd year, 3rd year, etc VETERANS of hunting seasons, but I don't see the problem with people saying they shot a 5 1/2 yr old buck.... I've shot 3 does that by their teeth were aged at 7 1/2 (2 of them) and 8 1/2 yrs. old.... Just one example, but lots of aging charts list the age as 2.5, 3.5, etc yrs. old by the tooth wear. http://mdc.mo.gov/hunting-trapping/deer/how-tell-age-deer
