I have been a solo hunter for pretty much my whole hunting career, but things are a changing. I have me a brand new "part-time" hunting buddy my wife. She got her interest sparked after this past deer season and now she has her own bow and shoots the crap out of it, She is definately looking forward to turkey season but the only thing is she says when deer season comes around and it gets cold she is out. Oh well I guess part time is better than no time.
Other then Tyler, I bow hunt alone. If you knew the other bowhunters in my area... you would understand why. I don't need hunting buddies that bad. I really enjoyed hunting with Troy when he was here. While I haven't got to hunt yet with TeeJay... I got to know him pretty well in person. Both would make a great hunting buddy who you could trust. There would be quite a few guys I would love to hunt with here from the forums. Tim
Actually the more I think about this I do have a couple hunting buddys with me not just physically in the stand but via texting.:d
you can trust me, AL :d My brother and my nephews ... my hunting buddies ... my dad used to be, but he has had health problems for awhile ... I am hoping to get him back this season
You guys made an awesome team there Walt In the Full Circle video, I really enjoyed watching you 2. Yep, I'd say you got yourself a good down to earth hunting buddy!
Here is a truth that everyone really knows but very few want to admit... IF YOU CAN'T COUNT YOUR FRIENDS ON ONE HAND YOU ARE LYING TO YOURSELF. Then, when you are lucky enough to have a real friend you also want them to have your exact same interest level in hunting, you are really trying to buck the odds. Might as well play the lotto. Also, some of the things said in this thread should be saved to use against people later... :d
I had several over the years and then they get married and the new wife confiscates the balls and keeps them in a jar in her closet. Now they have a short leash, really its just the length of a whip. It's just not long enough to get far enough in the woods to really hunt effectivly and let's not even mention trying to get into his tree stand!! If you think I am joking, one of the guys actually had to box up all of his hunting and fishing stuff and put it into his mothers storage. The wife would not even let him keep it in his own storage shed! I know this is harsh but in so many ways it is the thruth. I'm just glad my wife is supportive 90% of the time. Thanks baby!!
I have a ton of great friends that I text on occassion from the tree stand and they will show up in a minute if I need anything. But as for actually getting out and hunting together that hasn't happened yet. Definetly working on building those relationships with several people. A few of them from this site!
I have a couple of good hunting buddies that I hunt with often. Actually 3,(not including my dad/brother). But even out of the 3 I do consider hunting buddies one guy is absolutely obsessed with big bucks to the point it doesn't seem fun for him sometimes and one guy I rarely get to talk to(in his defense work is pretty hectic for him in fall), the third guy is pretty solid. Hell I don't feel I'm the greatest hunting buddy at all in some ways(mainly time I can commit) but I try to make up for by being unselfish. I want my friends to have success as much as I want it for myself and if I hunt a hot stand or a great new area you can believe I am calling the other guys telling them to get in there and what I saw and hoping one of them can get something done. Last season for exampleyou have to scroll down the bottom to see the deer) http://www.huntingnet.com/forum/tm.aspx?m=3106134&mpage=13 A hunt that my brother and my good friend Matt(MDS184) and I will talk about for a long time.
A good hunting buddy is someone who is equally happy with your success but has the drive to achieve his own.
Scott, I'm extremely lucky in that regard. I have 2 guys that fit the description... Trustworthy and honest and the kinda guys that you can spend 6 months with and never get on eachother's nerves. I'd have another one if my friend from the OH-IO would move South!
Tater is a one of a kind that is for sure!!!! But I am glad to say I have a couple that have the same desires and drive and would come to help on a call.. I also have a couple that are really close but just don't take hunting that serious they hunt but not with the same desire and that is ok also. For me it is all about hunting the big whitetails I have already done the family thing and it was great and I hope my daughter can make it down to hunt with me in Illinois this year but Tater still is the man!!! Walt
Yep....it's all about LOCATION. :D You know my answer to this questions already.....it sucks not having someone close to share this passion with.
