I'm often asked when people see pics of my setup what kind of nock is that on the back end of my arrow; when I tell them "pin nocks" it sometimes leaves people confused a little and with more questions.

Here's the value in pin nocks. I usually don't shoot at the same spot, because even replacing nocks all the time gets expensive. But I'm making some final tweaks during a broadhead-tuning session and REALLY wanted to see how tight my groups were for FPs so I'd have an absolute mark to move from. Of course, second shot and this happens, but I remembered about people asking and thought it'd be a good opportunity to show the benefit of a pin nock.

Granted, pin nocks are a little more expensive and I honestly didn't start shooting them until a few years ago when I picked up an arrow sponsor. But instead of replacing a $20 shaft, I'm looking at a twenty-five cent or less nock.

See how the "pin" or metal stud inside the nock is intact? The nock has exploded all around it (more than likely this would have been a robin hood had I not been using pin nocks) but the pin itself is perfectly fine. I'll grab a pair of pliers and pull the remains of the old nock off, slide a new one on and ... presto! Good as new! :)

Oh well....I'll wait to see what you have in store for post #2000. :)

How much does a pin nock setup weigh?

The bushing is 11 grains and the nock itself is another 5 for a total of 16 grains.

I use pin nocks on one set of arrows. It is in there more to stiffen the spine a little than protect the arrows but it has certainly done that too.

I use pins exclusively on target shafts. I have only hunted with pins 2 seasons that I recall... It's been a few years since I hunted with them.. Last I remember was the 2006 season.

They really do protect your arrows from arrow stacking. I have some pin bushings that look like they were ran over by a truck, all of the gouges in them from field tip deflections. :)

The little bit I experienced with them, I was pretty impressed. I can certainly see their advantages. I may switch to them if I go back to GT or another brand with widely available pin nock components. Aren't their pin nock adapters for ACCs?

Yep...thats why I asked Greg the weight. Guess you could resort to lumenocks if pin nocks weren't enough? $10 nocks are too rich for my blood though. :p

I've used pin nocks on target shafts, but I've found that I'd rather have more "throat" to my hunting arrows. I have heard that bohning makes a better pin nock that I may look into, until then I protect my hunting arrows with a super unibushing and a bohning double lock nock. It's not the protection that pin nocks provide, but it helps.

Remember too that I build my hunting arrows with 50-grain brass inserts. ;) Ups my overall arrow weight for a lot more "oomph" and keeps my FOC where I like it.
