:p:p Yeah I said it and here's why. Other than the sure beauty and peacefulness of the surroundings you play in being in the great outdoors, there are a lot of other things that come into play. It's an individual sport. Meaning if you don't perform you dont' get paid. It's that simple. You're paycheck is 100% based on YOU (aside from sponsors)! No agents negotiating idiotic contracts for you. No free agency. No speculation on which team will be bidding on you. No draft. No steroids. No tarnished records. No fixed games. No scandals (LMAO HAHAHAHAHA- ok til now). No sir it's the only sacred sport left. Just one man against the golf course. Battling for his personal goals. Magically maneuvering his ball around the golf course. 100's of components in the human body coming into play precisely at impact to launch the ball off the clubface at 180mph. Watching the flight of the ball soar through the air. Making the ball do whatever you want it to do. Yes! Total control. Defying the laws of physics. Low draw, high fade, one hop and check, high flop the 30 footer, the stinger (my personal favorite). The creativity! The desire to be the best! Yes folks golf is the only sacred sport left.
It's a beautiful game. Your descriptions are accurate. We call penalties on ourselves. There's NOTHING adversarial in golf that doesn't lie between golfer's ears. The smells........man I DO miss those. Golf will help mold a man's character, then define it for him (or expose him). LOL....I just found this... I know I'll play again, one day. For now, though.......no interest. Hey, NY.....notice anything familiar?
Using the points you made, I'd have to say tennis is the greatest sport...at least they carry their own racket. I am impressed with what they can do with a golf ball, but the greatest sport, that is crazy talk.
I'd definitely say that golf is one of the hardest sports in the world. I played football in high school up until my junior year when I dislocated my shoulder and had to have surgery. Not wanting to risk messing my shoulder up again, I switched to golf my senior year. I'd played quite a bit the years prior, but never seriously. I must say, it ended up being much more challenging than I expected it to, and my biggest problem was the mental aspect. I'd mess up a couple times, and just over-think everything that I did. I didn't get to play in one varsity match that year, and still sucked it up in JV . It was definitely a real eye-opener, as sports usually come to me naturally.
Sounds like you just described field archery to me............ It's a shame that it's a dying sport........
I can see why guys would take it very seriously, but to me golf something I do while waiting for the beer cart to come by. But if you are good enough to make a living at it, have at her.
Golf is awesome. No other game can make a man stand up and rejoice to the heavens or drop to his knees in tears. Butch's best shot ever (never duplicated, doubt it ever will be): - An average/short par 4 hole, very slight dog-leg left from an elevated tee. - Nailed the drive dead straight with my Ping Si3 driver, probably to 260-265 yards (with a roll). - Seeing that I was at the 150 yard marker, with a slight breeze behind me, I grabbed an 8 iron (7 iron is my comforable 150yd club). - Nailed the ball cleanly with the 8 iron, dead straight to the green. - The ball landed on the green, in back of the flagstick. - The ball spun backwards, followed the "break", and... - ...ROLLED RIGHT INTO THE CUP! My first ever (and only) Eagle! :D
Although I am not a fan of golf the sport, I am a huge fan of what it takes to become a great golfer. They have my respect. I am also a huge fan of track and field. The beauty/simplicity/nostalgia of track and field is unsurpassed in any other sport.
Beer pong I do it for the glory No sponsers, no agents, no TV cameras, just yourself, a ping pong ball, beer, and a cup.
Caleb, because you have such a passion for beer pong, I'm going to share our beer pong table at my house at school with you. I think you'll appreciate it :D
I am sorry guys, I just never found an interest in it, I tried golfing but what turned me off to it was the elitist attitudes and vibes that seemed to linger in the air at every golf course I tried out in my early to mid 20's. Also, I'd catch myself looking for sheds in the ruff? or is it rough? Anyway, I can appreciate your takes on it but Golf never did it for me. Football now that was a different story.
If you're ever back in this neck of the woods let me know! As long as it's not during hunting season of some sort, I'll probably be around.
Golf the one sport where a beer belly and dorky shoes can feel at home. LOL!! I tried a couple times with the brother in law and had a good time, but I can take it or leave it.
2 points you forgot.. 1) The 300+ yard drives 2) The cocktail waitresses and the porn gals that you can play around with :p
