I enjoy watching all types of archery hunting videos but my queastion is why do whitetail get names but mule deer don't?
Probably because mule deer are quite nomadic compared to White Tails. Mule deer often live in places that quite remote from human civilization compared to White Tails in the Midwest and south where most tv shows are made. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Because the "pro's" think they're all that and a bag of chips by killing Dagger or big Pete. Mule deer are nomadic and tougher to pattern and have game camera picture or multiple encounters. Whitetails are the opposite with the exception of those of us that hunt the big woods. A 4.5 year old or more can be just as much or more of a recluse than the Mulie.
Like mentioned, they are more nomadic. Unless you own a ranch with thousands of acres, its hard to track a single buck id imagine. Whitetails have a dedicated home range and will live there for years and years. Plus whitetail hunters outnumber Mule Deer hunters 25 t0 1 i bet.
Funny to c this post last night I watched a pbs show on a guy that had all his mule deer named and had them so he could pet some of them. Freezer meat sounds best to me. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I still think it's stupid to name them but a few years ago I was trying to explain what deer I was talking about to a guy I hunt with and we went round and round and I don't think he ever realized which one I was talking about. It makes it a hell of a lot easier to say "hey I saw Swampy today" rather than " you know the big one we saw that one time we went to check on that one stand....yea you know he was big and brown and he had a white tail.....no, no not that one, the twelve pointer with the big tine on the right side. No the other big 12. Yea that one! Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Love hunting mulies in the hills and yes we name them plus the whitetails to just so we know which buck we're talking about
