Nnamdi, Cromartie, Young, Jenkins, Brown, Babin, Mathis... All big name guys who got contracts and made this team a LEGIT super bowl contender for years to come. Where are the Browns? The Lions? The other crappy teams? The Browns are especially funny to me because they have a fanbase, yet they wont cater to them.
Hey, the Lions are on a come up. They have some good pieces, but the problem is they had too many needs. If you spend it all on one need, that doesn't help you a great deal. They've tried that in the past and it didn't work for them. The Eagles were already good, they just took it to the next level. If the Lions stay healthy, they could do some damage. Maybe they will actually get to play a 1st or 2nd string QB against Green Bay this year. They didn't do too bad against them with the 3rd stringer last year though.
They haven't won a game yet. In fact, they aren't all even allowed to practice yet. They're still hurting for a world class QB. That could be a killer.
The Eagles have added some nice players but are still mediocre in several areas (O-line, D-line, Linebacker) The fell flat on their face at the end of last season.
Because the Eagles were already good. You act as if a garbage team bought their way into superbowl contention. The Eagles were a great team last year, and they added a few more great players. Same thing happened elsewhere around the league fwiw (Cardinals weren't a great team, but have vastly improved this off season, and the Pats added two high risk high reward players to the lineup) I guess my point is they added some talent to their already good roster. Adding that same list of guys to the browns for example, does NOTHING to compare to what the Eagles will be.
My point is...The Eagles are a PLAYOFF team, and went and spent money to boslter there roster. The Browns, Lions, Raiders ect, are NOT good teams and they still dont spend money to become good teams.
C'mon Caleb, do you just enjoy making stuff up? Payroll doesn't equal success. Pats had the 3rd smallest payroll last year (30th) and finished with the best record. Do you know where Green Bay ranked? 28th. The Browns were ranked 4th. Care to guess who was number one in 2010? I know you prefer to just guess, but its the Raiders. Google.com. Use it, its free.
As long as Andy Reid is head coach they will never win a SB. He is the worst at clock management and play calling and they choke every year at the worst times.
The Bucs were a playoff caliber team last year. They didn't make the playoffs, but they were a pretty good football team. They didn't spend a lot of money on free agents this year either, and had a ton of cap room. Why? Because they'll likely spend all their money on their young talent- locking up them in long term deals to ensure they'll be good at least another 3-4 years. I trust the Front Office guys of NFL teams to know how, when and why to spend their millions.
The new lockout rules will change this. It's a business. Now, more coin will have to be spent. And, if Vick gets hurt, they are in trouble, I think.
No desean jackson yet. This team has way too many 'me' players who might not mesh at all. It all comes down to the right 53. We'll see what happens but I won't be surprised to see the Eagles fall flat on their face and in cap hell next year.
Pats...Packers...two of the BEST front offices in sports. Browns...Raiders...terrible front offices. I just answered my question.
Heck the Packers did it with what I believe 14 guys on I.R. I think they have a legitimate chance again this year also.
The Jets added a lot of talent also. The dolphins shook things up a lot, but they still don't have a qb, and i don't expect them to do hardly anything (meaning they're going to win it all). I'm a big fan of the Bucs. They've been quietly building a team the last few years and they're going to start seeing some huge rewards soon. The eagles did add a bunch of talent, but they are just too unproven as a team. You can bet this though, it's going to be a very fun year.
I'm glad to see that T Jackson is going to start at QB for Seattle. He has to be one of the most frustrated QB's in the NFL for the amount of times he thought he was going to be the starter, only to have it taken away at the last minute. Hopefully he does good for them.
