I just spent a ton of time searching Craigslist for a bow for my daughter and I could not believe some of the prices that people are asking for used bows. I came across my first ever bow that I sold 6 years ago and a guy is now asking $150 more for his then I got for mine when I sold it and I got a fair price for it back then. I just find it amazing that some people think bows hold value more then they really do. And I found a guy with a Helim asking $1200 at best I think he would be lucky to get $800 with the extras he has with it.
Although I must say I did come across some that are very fairly priced and they should be able to sell if someone is interested in it.
I see the same thing with people selling boats on Craigs too. The only thing worse than dealing with a craig's list seller is dealing with a buyer.
Some of those guys have an 80's Bear bow and wants like 300- 400 for them. I just laugh and move on a figure they really don't know the market.
I wish more people would give their minimum price on Craigslist because they always post a higher price knowing people will low ball them. Then a dumb negotiation goes down.
I don't mind people offering less than the listed price, the ones that bother me are the ones trying to knock down the price before they have even looked at what is being sold.
I've had some really good luck on craiglist but with that said there are the ones out there that have junk but expect to get a bank roll for.
reserch the years the bow was made. after the model is no longer produced it loses value. after 3 years of non production it is or should be listed at atleast half of the original retail value. now your Hoyt, Mathews and Bowtch peeps will still try to get the premium out of it because they need that money to pay that rediculas price tag.
I always go their to try and sell my bows first. The people don't know the market so they will pay a lot more than they should. But I would got to archery talk or Facebook archery buy sell and trade
I have searched them all and the FB pages and AT do have knowledgable people it's just craigslist that baffles me.
Some people get more attached to their bow than they care to admit and try to sell some of the sentimental value.
There are just some things I wouldn't buy used, and a bow is one of them. In the long run, you're almost always better off buying new.
Craigslist doesnt have a way to comment.. most ppl think twice about what they are going to ask if someone can instantly call you an idiot.
I think what happens with Craigslist is that people start their pricing high, and then expect the buyer to work them down (unless of course the price is firm).
