I guess I kind of do... There seems to be a lot of people who don't think they do. But I am not going to convince them, am I?
I was curious about this and did some quick searching. I couldn't really find anything that said a broken home was the number one predictor but I did find it in the 5th rank here: http://www.caction.org/PublicSafety/2000Assessment/PublicSafety00PredictorsofCrime.htm Granted, it was a quick search so there may be somewhere that says it is the number one predictor. I just could not find it.
We have a biblical responsibility to orphans and widows. Malachi 3:4-6 And I will come near you for judgment; I will be a swift witness Against sorcerers, Against adulterers, Against perjurers, Against those who exploit wage earners and widows and orphans, And against those who turn away an alien— Because they do not fear Me,” Says the LORD of hosts. James 1:27 Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.
Well, I would say we have a huge social responsibility to the familys of the people we ask to die for our country. But, in reality, there is little support for these widows and orphans or the broken soldiers, social or biblical.
A way I heard it put one time ( but is not the reason I believe in God), If my beliefs are wrong, then Ill end up dead in the ground just like everyone else. If someone doesnt believe and is wrong, then they are going to end up in Hell. Again, not the reason for my belief, just what I heard one time.
Thanks for your honesty and I will be honest as well. Of course you know every researcher concludes their own research with their own findings. Mine came from family life today which is a Christian resource. I recently finished teaching a seminar based on the book by Dennis Rainey "Stepping Up To Courageous Manhood." I don't quite remember the source he cited from the book right off hand. At either rate, whether it is number one or number five you found that it is a predictor and why not give our kids every possible chance for success? By the way when you get a chance, I would like more info about the effects of FOC on arrow flight in a different post. I know you are the wiz on that.
Does that mean that children in Africa that have never heard of religion of any sort are going to hell? Because they don't even know they should believe?
I think we pointed that out to him once already but, hey, if you don't march in lockstep with the christians............
Yea, theres a gray area there, I think God knows the deal there and can make that discretion. Honeslty, I think it is people that discredit God from what he has done while having the ability to know and learn and build a realtionship and all the opportunities but still shun Him and choose to not believe. Also, Children are innocent in God's eyes.
I thought everyone was born with original sin and if you don't get baptized before you die you go to hell.
We should be ashamed of ourselves as a Nation that we allow any child to fall through the cracks. What can we do? I mean who should these kids be able to turn to? If we say to the church, we have a society full of nay-sayers today who say churches can't be trusted because of some bad apples and few people want more taxes for the government to take care of them. Like the g-men would get that right.
Not what I have been taught, Children are innocent in Gods eyes, until given the choice is what I have always believed.
Well then, what about the adults that do not know to believe? There are tribes of indians in Brazil that have had minimal to no contact with civilization. Would they go to hell because they are not innocent children?
Everyone is a child of God. Whether you are 1 yr old or 100 yrs old, you still are a son or a daughter of you parents right? Same goes with God. I shouldve clarified that last time. IF they never have the chance to decide, or know to decide, then God knows, and they are still his Children.
Agreed. But just try and pay for some social programs for these children and the tea party will come after you. I don't know that churches always get it right either but regardless of whether it is church based or gov based or a combination you will still need money to help these familys and that is where the rubber hits the road. No one wants to pay for this stuff.
