I just got my brassicas mix in the mail. Debating whether to plant today (we have a good rain coming Monday) or wait another 3 weeks and plant then.... I want to plant now haha so maybe I will and pray for an early frost.

Is there any downside to a radishes/turnips maturing a couple weeks too early before the first frost?

You must be Western NC, if you're close to GA?

When do yall typically get your first frost out west?

Ya you dont want them maturing early because the bulbs will rott before the deer eat them.

Well, the rain forecast for Monday isn't looking as promising as I was hoping. Yesterday it was supposed 70% for Monday and now it's only 35%. I'll probably go with my gut on this one and hold off for a another week or so.

How long can seed be in the ground without rain before rotting?

No no no... the seed wont rott. The plants will rott if you plant them to early before a frost.

I just got all my plots plowed, seeded and fertilized. and it rained 2 hours later which is awesome. If your in NC i'd hold off about two weeks. in Ohio we hit frost about mid october. most brassicas mature in 60-90 days

Had plans to plant my Brassicas this coming weekend but forecast calls for a pretty rainy week. It may be too wet next weekend. Is it ok to plant the second week of August in Northeast Ohio?

Yesterday mowed the plot area down with brush mower then used a roto tiller on the back of the tractor to till up the soil. Smoothed it out with rakes then used a hand seed spreader and planted Big N Beasty brassica mix. And in one part of the plot planted clover and chicory. Then raked again and drove over it with our tractor. Also mowed our clover plot. Got a little rain after hopefully we get some more. One plot left to plant.

Next Saturday will be the day tilling up the oats and planting a Austrian winter pea radish mix, putting it right next to the clover. I have to get out the posts and string up the double tall snow fence to keep the deer out run 1500' of hose out to irrigate going to be a busy weekend

It has rained the last 3 days here in NC. Hoping to get some sun this week for my food plots to really take off.

Plan on planting my brassicas in a week or 2.

Im going out tonight to get as much work done as I can! I would like to plant about an acre spread across 3 plots but they need to be mowed and tilled first.

I mowed most of mine off on saturday, I have about 10 acres left to mow on another farm in five plots. I'm not going to try to plant anything until it rains and after aug 20th.

Found a lot of rocks and roots today while plowing. I'm gonna chisel it up this week and then spread lime soon. Should be good to go by the end of August.

Am I too late to start a fall plot? I was going off of when the back of the Imperial Whitetail bag says to plant.
