If you could of been in my shoes, you would have swore that the rut was in full swing this morning. I went in with intentions of taking a Doe this morning but they were all stirred up and running everywhere because the teenage Bucks were in hot pursuit  I seen two Bucks chasing different Does like mad, in full out dead run mode and two other Bucks put on a sparring match 20 yards from me  I seen 11 total Does/fawn mix. I would of had one shot at a mid size Doe but thought it was a fawn comming in until it was to late when I figured it out. Before getting down there were two Fawns come in but I couldnt make myself do it :violin:The Hens were duking it out behind me, that kinda got brutal. It was 36 degrees this morning and I guess it kinda confused them. Heck the leaves have not even fell here yet. Anyone else seeing rut like behavior yet so early? Im betting Iowa Veteran is responsable for this :bash:

Last week, I had a yearling buck chase off a big doe before she came close enough for a shot. I hate when bucks chase off a doe when I'm trying to shoot it. Seems like it happens at least once a year.

Question, why would the weather confuse them into thinking the does were in heat?

We have had young bucks sparring on camera for nearly a month now, and I watched a pair pushing eachother around last weekend. Haven't seen any chasing though.

Last weekend in West Central Illinois I filmed a couple young bucks sparring (normal for the young guns this time of year) but also saw a mid 130s 10pt. pushing some does around. Cool stuff!

buddy who shot a buck the other day said that there was a doe in front of a smaller 8pt walking with her tail up in the air. he was following her with his nose in the air. then the 8pt he shot came by walking the same path 20 minutes later.... ????

I spoke with a friend of mine who said he saw similar activity with a couple of young bucks in North MO within the past two days...

Last year I had a yearling bump a doe I'd just shot out of her death bed... she'd went about 25 yards an just toppled over sideways. I thought she was done... he came nosing around and got her up and she ran another 100 yards before giving up the ghost.

Yeah, same thing in central Wisconsin. Two weekends ago (October 9th) I was watching a doe in a distant field. All of a sudden she flagged and turned and ran into the brush. A few seconds later another deer comes sprinting full dead ahead...all the way across a 40 acres field and goes straight into the spot where the doe was.

Moments later they emerge on my side of the field. Doe running for her life...the other deer in hot pursuit. Back across the field and intor the brush. I could hear her bleating and him grunting in the brush as they crashed through the brush. I only saw them emerger one more time still in full chase before they went somewhere else.

Las weekend also was shining a field and saw deer running after eachother. It was only a half-effort...they would chase...then the doe would lie down and the bucks would lose interest for a few seconds. Then one would run back towards the doe and she would get up and run again.

Last weekend also my cousin reported small bucks chasing does for an hour in our sugar woods. So things are picking up in centrail Wisconsin!
