My buddies and I have this debate all the time about every other sport. Why not bowhunting, I say. It could be a relative, a friend, a hunting "celebrity", you could even nominate yourself. The criteria is whatever you want it to be. Obviously, this is just for grits n' shins.

To get the ball rolling, I'll say Bill Winke. In the short time that I've been obsessed with bowhunting, Bill's writings and shows model to me what I aspire to.

This one is the obvious one for me. Fred Bear. Not only did he pioneer bow hunting for modern man but he made a model of himself that I believe we should all stand for.

Fred bear yes deffinatly Mr. Mcpherson who I believe brought about the effeciency of the modern compound bow. Or you may not know this guy but he's a pretty big name Bill Vaznis, not sure if i spelled his last name right. I really appreciate bills writting.

I will comment only as a deer hunter, there is a world of difference between the guys that travel the world and your local deer guy. The world traveler is out of my dreams, and they will kill most of their animals with the guide doing everything but the shot, so to me I will only comment on deer hunters. There are alot of great ones, but I have a special place for a guy that can do it on his own, on world class deer, and film it on his own, Adam Hayes, has to be right up there. 3 bucks into the 200" mark, and I may be wrong but he filmed most of them and self guided himself too. If that the case there aint to many other guys that have pulled that off! I could be wrong about all of them being self guided, but I think they all came from Ohio.

Chuck Adams.. I also like Michael Waddell. He is a rising star doing great things for hunting in general.

I have a hard time giving this much credit to celebrity hunters. If I could afford to hunt like they do even I would kill lots of animals every year. So I too would say Fred Bear.

If we're talking specifically whitetails, I would say buckeye.

Hard to compare someone who hunts with guides or owns or leases 1000's of acres with someone who only can hunt 50-100 acres.

So I agree with Rory there is no such thing !

    Fred bear, howard hill.

Todays celebrity hunters just get a phone call from someone thats already done all the work and just put them in a stand for a endorsement deal or photo opp or hunting mag story

How many hunting shows start out with "I got a call"

    Fred Bear

Once I started bowhunting, fred bear really became a huge model I aspired to be. His videos are really cool and seeing someone get within that distance without modern archery equipment is really amazing.

Fitzgerald is also a really great teacher.

Now Michael Waddell has really stuck out to me as a true outdoorsman I can relate with.

Anybody got an opinion on Mr Ted Nugent? I'm just curious. Thanks

Probably some roughly musclular olive skinned huntress who lived 10,124 years ago. She more than likely had a sprinters rear end, a large spear, and was equally adept in the bedroom. KILL!
