Been out since Friday night. I've been using about $30 of gas each day to keep my genny going so I don't lose my freezer full of meat. I'm beginning to think it's not worth the money but I've been doing it this long so I'll keep it up. I've got my small deep freeze, fridge, window unit A/C (so I can sleep during the day in between shifts), tv/satellite, lamps, and a couple fans on. No water though. I've been going into work early to shower.

You're served by AEP I'm assuming? I work for AEP in Virginia and we still have 300,000 still without power. Looks like AEP Ohio has a little over 200,000 out. I'm on my 6th straight night of working 12's...better than the long, hot hours the guys are pulling in the field though. I should be back on by the weekend.

Some people are are plain stupid. We've been hearing from the guys that customers are cursing and throwing things at them. They can't help the weather nor the long outage times. If it were up to me, they'd be getting there power last. Pisses me off.

No power in southwest Virginia. We do have spring water that feeds the house, this really helps. Makes for COLD shower/bath but it is alot better than some folks have it. Phone service also, this is good. All things considered, it has not been that bad. We also have a basement to sleep in at night which helps to have some where to go that is a little cooler.
I quess I am a little bite better off than most.

Mine was out for 7 seconds, then if flashed back on, and I could here my standby generator making that buzzing sound out back that means my power if back on.... :D Burned through about 15% of my big Propane tank thus far, but it's convenient, and my food in my freezers has stayed cold, my AC is still working, and my house is comfortable, water's still warm for showers, though I did back the water heater down to a lower temp, just to save on the usage a bit..... It'll be nice when the power is back on so I can use the dryer here at the house though, but I'm considering pulling the wires to the water heater, and wiring in the dryer so I can do a couple loads if this don't end soon..... Lost one tree, and my truck cap, all in all, I can't complain much seeing what some others have had happen to their places...

    Josh,
Pretend you're "roughing it," out at the cabin.... :D

Its good to see you guys are in high spirits. As a utility lineman i know what work is being done to get your lights back. The mayor of d.c. isnt helping that much unfortunately. But hang in there!

Me too Finch :D ...and yes, AEP. Keep up the good work!! Hopefully this will be just a memory soon and you guys can resume living a normal life.

Doug, the cabin was far more comfortable than home these last 5 days. I definitely woulda been out there if it wasn't for work!

I wish we would lose power once so I can try out our generator transfer switch. Its been installed two years and we have not lost power once. I'm somewhat joking but id like to enjoy the fruit of my labor once.

I would come out and get to climbing but my boss doesnt think there is enough money in chasing storms. Dont think the wife would appreciate me being half way across the country for a few months either.

Its manual. And I have to plug a portable generator to get it to work so its not a standby. I know it works as I've tried it. I just want to try it under a real situation. Like I said I'm somewhat kidding as I don't want something to happen that would cause a long outage. But I would love to be enjoying cold beer, tv and lights while the neighbors sit in the dark. I know, I'm mean.
