Sorry Greg been busy with work, But GregMO pretty much summed it up a buck will always approch from the front of the decoy and I have not had the problem with getting down with to many deer in the feilds. I have only used mine as a doe a couple times and it seemed like the results were not near as good, one time like stated above we had a doe come in a blow for like 15 minutes staright.. I always place mine about 20 yards out with just a slight quatering to me and the little bucks will just circle it a few times but when a big boy locks on it it is great to watch.. Walt

I've had luck with them. And I use my Glen Del as a decoy. My buck came to the doe but he approached her head on and sniffed. Go figure. There's an exception to every rule!

I'm not sure when I started decoying but it was several years ago. I have used 4 different decoys and currently own 3. The main thing I have learned is to use them during the hottest 2 to 2 1/2 week period of the Rut.(Maybe I'm Lazy) I have taken 2 P&Y bucks with a Decoy and passed up lots of small and borderline Bucks.

It's really a Blast and the things you see are amazing, but it is a lot of hard work. Last year a few days I was packing in a Bow and 2 decoys!! Darn I'm gettin too Old for that.

I hear ya atlas... we had a sad incident in Southern Illinois a couple years ago where a couple young teenaged goose hunters were lying in a cut corn field among some decoys flagging in snow geese... A truck slows to a stop on the highway a few hundred yards off, and someone props a high-powered rifle up on the side glass and rips off a couple rounds, killing one of the boys.

My father has hunted his whole life and loved every minute of it...........he has often told us that bringing his 3 boys into the woods is something that has caused him more ill feelings then he could have ever imagined. It's not all taking pics with his arm around his sons over a fallen buck........it's the anxiety of the unknown out in the woods that are often full of fools. Every time a shot rings out close by my dad says the feeling of excitement of what may come over the hill his way or what may have walked in front of one of the boys now is far surpassed by hopes that everyone is still safe and coming home.

As the years go by I find myself yearning more for peace and quiet in the woods and the saftey factor of only having to worry about those in my party is probably a BIG reason for that. I have seen people do some crazy stuff in the woods over the years.

It's funny..........now that I think of it I'm not even sure decoys are legal in NY...........wouldn't that be considered "baiting"?

I use them all the time... The geese won't come in without them... just kidding. :-) I would really like to learn how to use one effectively. I have always thought when things did not go the way I wanted on anticipated that a decoy could have changed the outcome. I guess the only reason I have not is that I have always thought it was alot of effort to get one to the desired hunting location. All I need is one more thing to carry. decoys, cameras, bows guns... I guess I just need to hunt with others!!!

I think I will try one, but go for the smaller buck or a doe, so that it doesn't intimidate a decent buck.

I'm going to try it this year as well. I have a bobblehead decoy, but only used it a couple times last year. Didn't really get deer close enough for a reaction though.

Joey, that ought to make for some great filming... nothing like watching bucks come in to decoys on video.
