Way too early to tell. Start another one of these posts around August. I should have it narrowed down by then. Tim
As of right now there is three in paticular that ill be after. There was a very familiar 125" verty tall 8 point that I had about 4 close encounters with that I dubbed sneak peak. There was a wide 7 point around 125-130 that I dubbed Harley that I almost had a crack at. And that 140" that I was drawed on the second day of the season. I have not looked for there sheds yet in fear of running them out of the area before they dropped, but it is time and its on now. EDIT::I forgot about the crab claw 10 that I was trying to shoot moments before the buck I did shoot showed up
I won't have any "targets" picked out until at least mid summer if at all. Last year was probably a first where I actually targeted a couple bucks.
Here are 5 bucks that I am hoping are still running around next year. This was actually the buck I wanted to kill the most this year. Not because he would score all that great, but just because he looks cool. I only say him twice. First I was walking out of my stand and he had slipped in and was bedded about 60 yards from me. Second, I was gun hunting and he was bedded along a field edge and spooked as I climbed into my stand. I never saw this buck all year, but he should be a great looking 3.5 year old if he made it through the gun seasons. I have this buck nicknamed "Forky". I saw him once on stand in January, so chances are he is still running around. I would LOVE to run into him next year. This next buck was very predictable last year. He lived on a small brushy ridge all fall. I rattled him in 4 different times. He should be a nice one next fall. And this is now target #1. I have never seen this buck before, and as far as I know no one on our farm has. He's been nicknamed "Big SOB". I have already dreamed about him, have his spot picked out on the wall, just need him to walk in front of me next fall. I want him bad.
There were 2 others I saw from the stand that did not get pics of that I would not hesitate to shoot. Unfortunately they did not offer me a shot this season.
Taken from video on opening weekend last year. Had him at 30 yards, just not enough shooting lanes for a shot. And the trio that were regulars over summer time, would have been happy with them last year and even happier this year.
New land means new target animals.. and I got both yet again for 2010. Just began hunting sheds on one piece of new ground recently.. came up with this 65" 4 point side. I call him "Guy of Gisborne". Lots more shedding to do.. we'll see what else awaits this next fall. His right side... heavy mass that carries out everywhere.
Hope he is still around.... Tried to hunt him late season with the crossbow. Got these pics after i took my cameras down. Last pic I have was around the first week of January. Great thread Scott!
A buck I call "thick-headed" (obviously not because he's dumb) was still alive as of December 13th.. Hope I can get a shot at him this coming fall...or the other buck below this one. These are the best "up close" pictures I have of either of them. And then there is "Blondie". The farmer down the road said he saw him a few days in a row after Indy's late archery season ended. Gotta love their instincts.
