I have 5 different bucks 8 points or better on film but only one I would call a shooter. I'm looking for one in particular from last year and haven't found him yet.
I posted a couple of descent bucks I got on camera last night but neither of those are the deer I will hopefully be going after. From what I can tell from the last 2 seasons the 2 bucks that I want won't be there until October. Hopefully they show up earlier and I can get a pic to see how they have grown the last year. Either way I'm not really holding out hope of getting them on camera. Last year I saw both of them numerous times with 50yds of my camera and didn't get any pics until after season was over. I think my dad was starting to not believe what I was telling him. I was seeing this big 9 every afternoon and about every 3rd morning and here we are with no pics and him hunting 100yards from me and never seeing anything.
I've never had a target before and I still don't really have one this year. The only buck I have seen in my woods is a spike horn with the biggest beams I have ever seen on a spike horn. I would LOVE to let him grow because I know he is going to have a MASSIVE rack BUT the landowner allows another hunter on her property and he shoots anything that walks, and there is going to be a major clearing of a majority of the trees on the property this fall/winter so I think next year the property is going to be so overgrown that it will be impossible to hunt so I may just take him when I see him this year. I'm not sure I'll have to see what happens if he walks under my stand.
I have no idea of even where I am going to hunt this year because of the move. I know out here in the islands I can still bag a few more pigs before I leave but when I get to GA I'll be lost in the sauce for most of the season I am sure. I do personally like the idea of not knowing what is out there. To me half the fun is trying to track them down (pretty easy to do with the pigs here) but I can't put any cameras out here anyways because they'd get stolen in a heart beat.
I've been super busy this summer as well. I just got around to setting a camera last week. I have been maintaining a few scrapes and this will be my first year hunting them. I too would like to see a good buck on camera though.
I just picked up one last weekend.. although he'd be borderline at this point I think. I'm a little late to the game this year.. my mock scrape is out.. but about 2 weeks later than usual. I never really get bucks visiting it til September anyway. We'll see... I've been so busy this summer I haven't had the chance to think about hunting.. but with a planned elk trip closing fast I'm starting to get an urge! Sorta.
