property has never been checked. my cousin has found some mercury head dimes on some of his areas. I know where there are some old homesteads in the middle of nowhere along an abandoned public road. the last this road was used was in the late 1800's. I also want to check an old hermits farm again out in the middle of nowhere. I'm going to start videoing this stuff because I think it would be cool for people to watch. I'm starting to look through historical records trying to find locations of old town gatherings such as old carnival locations, town picnics things like that will be good spots to check. getting time to do this is another obstacle!
Update: I got my Garrett Ace 350 package and so far I'm really impressed. Started playing around in my backyard, and amazingly started finding older coins. Including a silver dime and 2 silver quarters! I never would have guessed it was there. I'm getting signals in my front yard too, but the ground is still pretty frozen. Can't wait to try this thing in some prime, remote property. I'm hooked already.
I've wanted one since I was in middle school and just never got around to getting one. I still want one but it's not on my to-do short list at the moment.
Same here. I just about bought one after Christmas with some gift cards but once again changed my mind.I probably won't use it as much as I want. I'm sure I'll get one eventually. So I ended up getting some thermacell insoles. Used them a few times already and they are awesome. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Kinda the same here, always wanted one but always had other hobbies or things to eat my play money up before I got around to a metal detector. For the last few months I've been into building lightsabers as a new tinker hobby...
I almost ordered one with my 10 year anniversary gift from work, but got over ruled by the wife. We got a knife and block set instead. I've always been kinda interested in doing it, but just haven't ever made the leap. My parents have found a few pretty cool things around their house. There used to be an old camp on the land 100-150 years ago. I think they found a silver spoon and some coins.
been watching nuggetnoggin's videos on you tube and looks like the garrett AT Pro is a great detector. someday I might have to upgrade. it sure is fun!
LOL this is so funny, I JUST started watching that kids videos a few weeks ago. He's really animated but you can tell he loves it. Metal detecting used to have the connotation that it's for an old man on a beach and I used to remember all the as seen on TV ads for metal detecting and it was a bunch of old men talking about how it gets them off the recliner so they can get their exercise. I look forward to getting into it eventually, just for the historical fun and maybe even find a few treasures.
Whats wrong with one more? I have a ton that I spend money on. If I drop the money for a decent detector maybe It will make me money.
Maybe! I'm cool with spending $250-$300 on one but I don't know enough about them to know whether that price range is just a waste of time or not.
Not sure if serious...? As Travis said - I never would have guessed! I would like to see some of the things you guys have found with the detectors! Post some pics if you have them.
I take mine to the campgrounds in the summer and my son and I find enough change to buy him some candy at the campground store. he loves it.
Ha, yes, I'm serious...not sure why that's hard to imagine. They're fun to build and are pretty cool to see and hear light up. They don't actually get hot and cut like the movie versions but they light up and make sound FX noises. There are electronics and small speakers you can wire and solder together to make them. They get quite intricate and fancy and sell for pretty good chunks of change, saw one on ebay the other day sell for $6500 which was not typical, typical going price for the really nice one's generally is in the 1000-$2500 range. The electronics alone can run a few hundred. I've not made any nearly that valuable or fancy, I've only built one and started with a a cheap plastic shell for my first electronics install but it turned out pretty neat. There are vids on youtube showing some examples. This is my favorite so far: Graflex Saber 2.0 by Martin Beyer (new) - YouTube
I know right...anyone that's a fan of Star Wars and lightsabers should get to play with one, they are pretty neat. They feel and sound like a real lightsaber. With this new SW movie release, the parts have been really hard to get cause everything is sold out all the time.
Ha, well everyone's different. I've been into Star wars fandom ever since I watched The Empire Strikes Back at a drive in when it was released when I was little.
