I noticed in corn pic that stalk has 3 cobs setting. One year the field corn I planted had about 10% produce 3 full size cobs per stalk.
I went out and checked my sweet corn and there are several more with 3 and out hasn't even tasseled out yet.

Is this a hybrid trait now? I don't remember this from years past it was alway 2 per stalk.

My easiest berries to pick, the first small picking of Aronia berries. I will add them to my blue berries in the steam juicer and then add a bit of lemon juice and honey to each jar then can them for a refreshing morning drink or over ice with a touch of vodka. Bushes are packed.
Hoping for juice ,and a canner full of beans and carrots tomorrow. Apple sauce the day after

Well today is a canning, picking day...rained all morning. I did get out to pick blue berries. 12 jars of carrot and beans and now 20 cups of honey laced Aronia /blueberries getting juiced. I have a second batch waiting in the wings. It's either juice them or freeze because the drink fridge is full and I'm living out of coolers until a new fridge arrives. Later it is shredding cabbage and making kraut.

got some spears pickling right now.
    Love me some homemade pickles

grandpa and grandma were watching my 2 younger kids today, when I picked them up I grabbed some cucumbers from the garden to pickle.

Also some of the apples in my yard are ready. Mowed this evening and grabbed an apple to snack on while mowing, love doing that.

I pruned the tomatoes down last night, gave the last of them some room for air flow and sun exposure.

Lol last of them, mine just started ripening. Blight and I are in a race...blights movi g ahead. All I need is enough to do salsa. I'm sure last night's cool rain won't help the spread.

I used to have the blight issues that is why I refuse to grow tomatoes in containers or elevated containers. Straw under the plants help on a dry year. I do use mirical grow every other week, from what I read it is a calcium deficiency but you have had a wet cold growing season too.

We eat a ton of eggs I have been washing and drying all our shells. I then grind them in a coffee grinder I use for herbs. This went in each planting hole then was sprinkled under plants weekly. They also have ALL lower branches taken off as they grew in landscape clothe lined rows. Yes cold wet and bugs. Bugs will spread it as well . Every morning I go out and remove any branch that show the slightest discoloration or spots. I also rotate tomatoes every year to the opposite side of garden. This is potato country and blight has ALWAYS been a huge issue. Actually all viruses and bacteria , blights are bad in this area...trees and fruiting everything are effected.

I had a bit of picking to do today when you get this the amount of work it took melts away. I don't eat either any more but hubby has melon cut up for his lunch and corn for his dinner. He tells me it's the best corn tasting garden I've grown thus far.this is just first pickings on corn in numbers .he's had a few whites this week but the rest is just starting for putting up this winter.

7 qts of kraut started and 3 bags of cabbage frozen. I sorted and snipped beans last night for chicken food. Had to snap small and cook well. Raw beans can kill chickens and actually not healthy for most Animals, high lectins that block calcium absorption.
The rest will be my last Dilly beans which will be hot.

Last few dinners have been totally off our land. I'm rather proud of that. Today all the onions were picked some of the Vidalia were way bigger than softballs. Perfect drying weather. Hubby's favorite apple,Cortland are now ripe and get picked tomorrow for storage and sauce to be canned plus more kraut will be made. Crazy amount of peppers growing though there are a bunch I have zero idea what they are due to " pepper gate"
Thanks to cold weather no canning tomatoes and no salsa. Thankfully I over did last year just in case. I have crazy amounts of squash. Kids will get some but like the stupid amounts of beans ...chicken feed so nothing goes to waste and amazing eggs.
