Things are ramping up in the garden and the birds are cleaning up under the mulberries. Beets and greens , peas and collards being put up for winter . Today I started my first big blueberry pick 1 1/2 bushes picked out of 10 and got 6 #'s of berries. Man first picking takes so long! trying to thin clusters of ripe berries with out damaging the cluster.
Okra's up and first pumpkin seeds are up. Cukes have little ones, all plants, save hot peppers, have flowers. Picked a other 2#'s if lettuce. That makes 8#'s so far
Thought I posted that, in the mean time, put up another 3 bags of peas and blanched a full 20 qrt. Pot of beets greens to freeze. Then froze most of the blueberries..

What variety of tomatoes ya got Soto? My Cherokee purples are almost ready and I’ve got super sweet 100’s itching to turn red.

I just found tomatoes on a few plants yesterday. They are a black cherry.. I've allowed the odd tomato plant seed grow from last year to see what happens. I'm up to over 50 plants both planted and popping up all over the garden. The cukes are loaded and those were planted at staggard times. All broccoli is picked and second round is just popping up. Unfortunately only 2 out of many pumpkin have sprouted in new soil. Grub kill apparently didn't work. Well 2 is better than nothing.. I'll work that virgin soil much better next year and add more Lime plus a bunch of chicken litter this winter. Pulled first garlic yesterday looks and smells great.

Peas are winding down, a few more picking left. Pulled all garlic 41 bulbs .
I found out why I'm losing seed. A.J. chased him past me as I picked peas...A very fat chipper SOB!
I checked and not a single pumpkin seed other than the two he missed and they spouted...plants next year I see.

Dang I was tired this afternoon , from the mess that post was. Still too tired to fix.
Cutting brush is all fine and well ...until you have to clean up the piles afterward. Had another chicken get loose. A. J was definitely training before what ever hurricane or tornado made him homeless. All I had to do is get his attention give a hand signal and say work her. He looked like a sheep dog in his stance head low shoulders a bit higher and weaving back and forth. He got her into catch position right quick.

Got my first little brown egg yesterday. I also picked another 4#'s of blue berries. This morning I have to startpucking internet because I did even put a dent I what is out there. So my netting is working great. I planted more beets, lettuce, and carrots, radish yesterday. Froze more peas. Will have yellow squash today and make pesto with all the basil. Onions are getting big and have first cabbage heads ready. Wind messed up my corn that may need to get post and string line. I had already "hilled" the rows to help with that, happens every year, but it was a rip roart hunderstorm that blew through fast. That section of garden is pretty sandy. Coffee first

How are your gardenes coming along and what did you plant? Anyone canning as I do?

Sounds like you've got quite the garden! I've got 4 tomato varieties. We tear up the cherokee purples during their ripe season and then dry them out once the season is about over. Same with super sweet 100's but we can the pink brandywines and the husky's to use for sauces and salsas throughout the year. Aside from that, I have a good bit of zucchini and yellow squash that have been producing for a few weeks now; sometimes up to 4-5 each per day so the neighbors are helping eat. Habaneros, Jalapenos and Bells are all readying up to harvest as well as my okra that produced earlier this week. My lettuce is starting to get bitter but I got a few months worth of leaves out of it before it started bolting. Question is now, what can I do with this lettuce that is still coming out.

Sounds great. My garden is weeks behind you. Where we are in NYS no matter when I plant things just seem to come on mid to late summer. Cold nights. Great for all greens though. The lettuce has been wild this year, still going strong on first planting. No bitterness yet. I do have a few other late spots planted. I'll feed all spent plants to the chickens or compost. The purple broccoli though good won't get planted again. It is just not producing sprouts after the smaller heads were cut. Not that it's not still giving me food. I'm adding the leaves to my collard greens and it great. The ocha has replaced the spinach for now it is all from last year's seeds that I let grow where ever it pleased. Hubby loves what he calls purple spinach. I'm also allowing tomato plants that are sprouts to just grow. Found a bunch yesterday.
We dry tomatoes as well they are so good. I canned whole cherry tomatoes with garlic and basil leaves last year.great on a veggies platter of if you run out of fresh tomatoes on a wibter salad. Soft but full of flavor.

So I have strange thing that happened in my tomato garden. I planted 3 plants same time 1 plant had 3 early tomatoes, out of those 3 1 ripened 7-10 days earlier. I enjoyed it on an english muffen this morning. It was the first tomato of the year. Strange the other two that formed have not ripened. Me growing tomatoes was always a thing with my Mom, she loved fresh homegrowns. Was that early tomato a gift from my mom? It made me miss her having my breakfast.

Did you get cooler nights after picking tomato#1? That and sun during the day makes them slower.
I now have tomatoes and peppers just nothing close to ripe. I pickedbigger beets today with greens and pulled my first section of peas plants. I will grind to powder another batchof egg shells I've been saving to sprinkle around the base of tomatoes and peppers. Helps with bottom rot issues in avoids it
