I got out Saturday night and Sunday morning for some back bay striper fishing on LI sound. Between me and my dad we got 7 schoolies.
We are still into good numbers of drop back steelies....another couple weeks and I switch over to stripers on the Hudson.
The schoolies are here now pretty thick and I suspect the big girls will be in full force by the weekend or mid next week at the latest. Today I drove by the Poestenkill and watched several guys filling their buckets with herring. I'd rather fish for largemouths or smallmouths, but might make it out a time or two this year for stripers.
I am.. I am. The water temp is about 48 degrees in most lakes.. but you can find 50 degrees if you look hard enough. I was out the other day dropshotting... but didn't manage anything other than a slew of Pike. Apparently they were really active that day. My first tourney of the year was scheduled for this coming Saturday.. but alas the record floods have halted that.. bummer. I'll likely get out again this week.. looking for some fat lady smallmouth in warmer waters.
Took the boat out for the first time this year yesterday. Biggest thing I caught was this cat on a deep diving crankbait, they'll bite anything out here.
I been getting some reports of some smaller fish the last week or two, guy I know even got a couple on the fly rod ,....nothing of any size yet.
If you click on the link in my signature, it'll take you to the Facebook page I created for my website. I've only been out a few times for smallmouth, and squeezed in a few local fishes for largemouth during a break in the weather we had a couple weeks ago. Overall, the weather has been pretty inconsistent here in MD and I've been traveling like crazy for work. It's going to be nice on Friday, so I will be out be hopefully have a few more pics to add.
