I would do many other African game, like eland, kudu, and other game if the like, but wouldn't do giraffe unless it was free. I would imagine that eland, kudu and many similar game would taste like deer or elk Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I really have no desire either. I think for the money I have and limited vacation time, There is plenty of game in North America that I would like to see and lakes I'd like to fish.
you "can" eat it; just not bring it back with you. From my understanding, usually a choice cut is taken by the paid hunter, the rest is given to the local villagers. Personally, I'd like to hunt Africa given the right circumstances. But before I hunt another continent, I need to finish hunting this one. Probably not going to happen, but a man can dream.
So from all the posts here, I guess that answers my question. Fire up the grill. I know nothing about African safaris or what animals are typically harvested for food or whatever other reason over there.
Sure would, My FIL took one, killer mount, said it tasted great, and they have the coolest freaking skulls I have ever seen.
I do know a guy that killed one. He went on a safari and was finished with his hunt when his guide mentioned how he had a couple giraffe that needed to be taken. He asked if my buddy was interested. He was, so they went into town and bought the permits. He went out, hunted the giraffe, and then took the dead giraffe back into the town where the locals bought the meat, which paid for the cost of the tag with a little left over, and then my buddy was able to get a giraffe skin rug made.
I'm with you, well insofar as killing one myself. I have no problem with it as long as populations of what you are hunting are sustainable, but it just wouldn't give me much satisfaction. The carnivore in me would certainly eat it if given the opportunity though, especially roasted over an open fire in the bush.
Yeah I still dont think Id want to them. Kill an animal that big and only get a meal or 2 out of it? For that cost? Defiantly not for me. Nothing against others doing it of course.
I'd love to... But not on one of the high fence farming operations in South Africa like Caleb was eluding to on TV...
For every wildlife creature I have ever hunted, I had eaten it before I ever hunted it. Just does not meet my personal hunting criteria.
