I will say that is has some beautiful grain in it.

    Nope.

But here is a little hint it also has a very distinctive aroma, sorta sickly sweet:D

Oh and it is a wood I have used before:p

That should narrow the field down to about 100 woods:eek:

    Jeff.

Ya really gonna kick yaself when the answer comes out:D

The 2 lenghts I picked up where almost black with age and being left outside.

So a quick thin pass on the band saw reveiled the grain in the above pic. The piece in the pic is the 1/16" slice I took off to reveal the grain.

It sure is gonna look a lot better when I do make some lams out of it and pass them through the drum sander.;)

I know. Ill just give a hint; Some call it Texas Iron wood. I sent Russ a big old hunk of it last year. This is not from the piece I sent, but its the same wood.

I would love a big old hunk of hornbeam. It makes a great core wood. I have only used it once on a bamboo backed hornbeam. Man, it was a snappy bow. A man had got the wood for me and asked me to make him a recurve out of it. It was a heck of a recurve. I almost wanted to tell him the bow broke and keep if for myself. Lol. But Id never do that.
