I use Moultrie M-40i cameras exclusively. I have always had good luck with all the Moultrie cameras I have owned. Until recently I used M -80XDs but sold them. I also use Energizer ultimate lithium batteries in the cameras due to the cold WI winter temperatures. Recently I have been having issues with what I believed eve is a combination of cold temperatures (sub zero at night and si gel digits during the day) and the battery terminal connection failing. I want to try external batteries because the plug in may provide a better connection for the power source.

The question is what battery do I buy? Brand and amp hours are important considerations. What do we need?

I use them on my 3 cell cams and my Reconyx microfire.

Are those cams 6volt or 12 volt? I bought pelican 1120 cases and my 6 and 12 volt batteries are off eBay and cost around 12 bucks.

The 12 volt I get are 12 volt 8 amp. The 6 volt are 6 volt 12 amp. These will fit in the 1120 case.

I had an old Mountrie that used the 6 volt lantern type batteries. It at them like a kid eats candy. I soldered in two leads about 4' long to the wires the clips attached. Put clips on the ends. Bought a 6 volt motorcycle battery at NAPA for about $20. Put it in a coffee can with lid. Used a 12 to 6 V dropping resistor to charge the battery from a 1 amp charger. Worked good and could run about a month on a charge. On disadvantage was the camera was out of service while the charging was taking place, plus 2 trips to the camera.

That is better yet. Use a 12 V MoPed battery, hooked up the same way. Camo the coffee can and your in business.
