I've been in the whitetail woods as long as I can remember with my dad, and he passed away almost a year now... Now I mainly hunt with my Uncle and going in the woods with him you learn something new everytime
Pretty much taught myself for the first 10 years, then I started to learn a lot from guys on the old HNI site about 1i0 years ago then here. Wish I would have had the knowledge I learned over the past 10 years, the first 10 years I hunted.
Good memories of my dad taking me out and showing me the ropes for gun and bow. Some of the best times I've ever had.
I married into a hunting family, and was allowed the opportunity to gun hunt with my in-laws. They didn't necessarily teach me a lot, but enough to get bye. I decided the gun hunting season wasn't long enough so I bought a bow on ebay and started my bowhunting career about 4 years ago. I have pretty well self taught myself. Still a lot to learn.
I taught myself, mostly. My dad tool me rabbit hunting once when I was 8. He never really even took us fishing. My uncle took me out during shotgun season a couple of times, but never seen anything. He also got me my first bow when I was 12. Later in life I made friends with people how hunted every thing they could. They kinda got the outdoor bug going with me. sent from my electronic carrier pigeon
I was pretty much self taught. Or maybe the deer themselves taught me. My Dad worked two full time jobs and my brothers that hunted were all older and moved away or serving in the military when I grew up. My biggest human influance in hunting was Andrae D'Aquisto (former owner of L/W stands). I was introduced to him back in the mid 1980's before anybody new who he was and we have been good friends ever since. If you get past people trying to ruin his good name the guy has increadable ethics and morals, and thats the biggest thing he instilled in me. One of my fondest memorys of him was when I was hunting a very nice 170 class buck and Andrae hunted the same farm. He called me one day and said the buck I was after was hanging in a certain field and that I needed to get over there and kill it. A couple days later he called and said, that buck has been coming out every day, either get over there and shoot it, or I will... So I did... I think about him and smile every time I look at that buck on the wall.
My old man got me into rifle hunting. He had me shooting when i was 6 years old and i started actually hunting as soon as I was of legal age to. Got into archery by my own curiosity when I was 16. We mostly just put on drives with rifle hunting, so scouting, hanging tree stands, planting food plots, and everything was learned by experience and trial and error. Failure is a great teacher.
I would have to say the Outdoor channel, magazines and a different now crappy site back before bowhunting.com was around! Sent from my DROID X2 using Tapatalk
My dad taught me the basics of hunting and the rest is from reading, asking, trial and error. I now get to help him out with bowhunting since I recently got him addicted. Still to this day, Im learning something new about fishing from the old man. Lucky to have a Father that loves the outdoors and passed his passion down to his son.
Dan I love you and Andrae's "Hunting Marsh Bucks" DVD. It was one of the most informational videos I have ever watched, and your wall is proof that your tactics are gold. Thanks a lot, you changed how approach hunting public land bucks. Just a couple average guys killing mature bucks, on public land.
I started hunting with a friend almost 20 years ago and looking back on it......I HAD NO CLUE!!!! With school and work taking hold, I never hunted again until three years ago. A chance meeting while grilling out one summer, my neighbor decided to break the ice and come over to meet me. As we talked, he mentioned archery and bow hunting. Fast forward and that neighbor is now one of my best friends. Thank you Isaiah! I am completely addicted to the archery world. For that, I am completely greatful.
Oh I remember it too! So cool that Dukemichaels came out to take pics! Oh ya and you came and helped too! Lol Sent from my DROID X2 using Tapatalk
Oh Ya? Chit man I worked all night and I still came out there for you. The more I think about this I had to do the same for Duke to help him bring out a doe. Thank gosh for the deer hawler I have.
