I have been using a sub-par handycam. The video quality is ok but with no mic input the audio is terrible. I have access to a canon HV20 minidv hd camcorder. Iv seen video produced from this camera and it is stunning. My question is, will minidv hold me back in terms of editability and ease of use?
Its more challenging for sure, but I got a great deal on a canon xha1s, so I will be working with tape for the foreseable future. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2
Major drawbacks to tape - capturing footage takes forever - heads will eventually wear out over time - increased chances of something going wrong with the recording (bad tape, dirty heads, etc.) - cost of purchasing new tapes all the time (you want to do this vs. recording over old tapes to cut down on potential problems) Once you've captured the footage to your hard drive, it's the same as working with footage that was captured onto an SD card. There's no difference in quality or editability.
I have a hv20. Takes nice video. I can't get it off the camera tho'. Can't get a laptop with a firewire port and my desktop 'puter croaked. I have had a bad tape. But memory cards can crap out too. So, that's not really an issue. Getting the footage into the computer certainly is... If I had more play money, I'd buy a newer camera.
