There are estrous scents in doe in heat urine, even though it will eventually it will break down to ammonia. The actual scent of estrous is what causes bucks to chase does. That's why does are constantly peeing on themselves, to keep refreshening the estrous scent.
I drive my ATV 3/4 of a mile, park and walk the last 1/2 mile to one of my stands. A few years ago going to sit, there was a scrape where I park. I parked next to it, peed in it before and after I sat. Three days later I went to sit that stand and the scrape was over twice as big. Since then I feel guilty walking by a scrape and not "doing my duty". Also, I used to sit this one stand all day. Mid-day I would walk back to the truck. I would add/shed clothes, change socks/boots and take a leak. Nearly every time there would be deer tracks in the snow where several deer came to investigate during the night.
I did this past gun season and the next day when I came back to take a look someone else had taken a dump in it.
I just avoid messing with a scrape at all. Why risk leaving your scent there? I don't hunt over scrapes anyway.
Wouldn't it have been quicker just to type "no" I love messing with scrapes ! I love leaving my scent there ! I LOVE killing mature bucks in those scrapes
Yep, I'll pee in a scrape if I have a chance.... A couple of years ago I was running like 3 'scrape drippers' and got tired of buying deer urine all the time so I started using my own pee in those too - they were very active and I couldn't tell a difference with the human vs. deer urine.... Think the big thing I try not to do is not spread my scent around. I would always wear rubber boots and gloves... Do my business and get away....
I found a major scrape the last week of november and set up a trail cam and urinated in it to see what would show up.I have video of eight different bucks that visited.
