I lived on ten acres and the land owner didn't want me to shoot my rifle, because the neighbors didn't appreciate the noise. So I bought a bow so that I could still shoot. Found out how addicting it was and then later started hunting with it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I guess I kind of got into it by myself..but it all started at my uncles house in '08. We were over there having a fish fry and he asked me get something out of the shed for him. Upon walking in and getting what he asked, I saw his bow leaning against the wall and I carried it out to him and asking if he would teach me how to shoot. He shot a few arrows through the lid of a plastic gas can from 20 yards or so and I thought that was the best thing ever; then again I was 15 and never shot a bow before. It was a Mathews (I don't remember which model) but it was on 70# and 29" draw..he showed me how to nock the arrow, pull it back, line the peep up with the pins and well, thats about it. Unfortunately he didn't tell me how to hold it and upon releasing, the string ripped the top layer of skin off from about an inch below my elbow half way down my fore arm. To this day he still praises me for never dropping his bow haha.
i wasn't born in the united states, but my family always hunted with primitive weapons, mostly stick bows and blow darts. when i came into the air force, i was able to afford my first compound bow. i'm the only one who continued the tradition of hunting and archery, and i have been able to preserve it with my wife and kids.
Television! About 8 years ago I was extremely bored one night and flipping through channels I stopped on a hunting show. Ended up watching it all night. The next day I went to Bass Pro and purchased my first bow. A PSE Typhoon that I kept for one year before upgrading.
My nephew did last season. I had just retired and was sitting around trying to figure out what to do. I did some competitive archery in college many, many years ago along with playing college ball (softball and volleyball). My husband never wanted to deer hunt so we were busy with all three kids playing school ball and travel ball plus playing some ourselves. He passed away in 2012 and I retired in 2013. I told my nephew I did not want to shoot a gun, and he said ok we'll go bow hunting....long story short, I'm hooked. I have a Matthews Jewel compound and a Ten Point Titan Extreme crossbow. When not in the woods, I'm shooting 3-D tournaments. I do own a rifle and a pistol, but more really for protection and not hunting. I LOVE bow hunting. Marsha
My dad got me in the woods squirrel hunting when I was 6 years old but my uncles got me into deer hunting. My first hunt was when I was in 8th grade didnt see anything but still got me hooked....
dad starting me out shooting skeet and trap when i was 6 or 7 as he was in the tournaments and such. he took me hunting when i was around 9 or so. my buddy got me into bowhunting when i got back from school 4-5 yrs ago... very glad my dad still around for that first year or so of bowhunting. he was in pretty bad shape and hadnt been able to hunt and really do much for a while but it made me happier to share the days story with him than it did to sit in the woods and actually go through the events that may or may not have occured.
I got myself into it. The first time I read about it in magazines I just knew it was something I wanted to do. My learning period would have been a lot less painful if i would have had a mentor.
No doubt the greatest archer I ever knew, My dad. He would take me out of school every year the first week of Pa. archery and tell my teachers I would learn more in a week of bowhunting than a week of classes. Try that nowadays.
When we were 8th graders, my buddy invited me out hunting with him. I grabbed an old recurve and tagged along....I have not been the same since
ESPN 2 on sunday mornings. I hadn't ever thought about hunting before, but thought it looked fun so i tried it! Have not looked back!
