To keep it interesting and relevant to my/alot of our generations, lets keep this 1985 and up.

Who is it? And whats your reasoning?

tough call, there were some greats right around that time frame, like the class of 83 that included elway, marino, kelly, and a couple others... hard to say those guys didn't dominate their college days as well as pro...

the best college QB I think I've ever seen was Jeff George... he was a whiny cry-baby in pro but he was the best passing college qb i've ever seen and he played for a crappy Illini team to boot... I think the single most dominate running back I've seen in recent years for Ron Dayne, he was a punishing runner... then there was marshall faulk, herschel walker, and bo jackson... all should be in the college hall of fame...

defensively, is there anyone that would top derrick thomas or charles woodson??

Defensively, it has to be Charles Woodson

    Offensively, Vince Young :D

If he was so great, why didn't he win a heisman? Hell, even the DEFENSIVE player you mentioned has one.:p

I think you are confusing "exciting" with "great".

Exciting/great go in the same sentance here,

VY beat one of the GREATEST, if not THE greatest college football teams of all time, by himself. 467 total yards against a team playing in its 3rd straight national championship.

Pro career be damned, VY was one of the greatest college players to ever suit up

Im not a fan of comparing old and new.

    Micheal Jordan/Wilt Chamberlain
    Richard Petty/Jeff Gordon
    Don Hudson/Jerry Rice

1985 seemed like a pretty good cutoff for me :D

UT had one hell of a talented team. He did nothing "by himself". A great individual performance, yes, but UT was a very talented that year.

I think college football has had plenty of exciting players that wouldn't be considered great. So which are we voting on?

They were talented of course (any top 25 team is), but NOTHING compared to USC. Not even close.

Tebow is a better passer than VY.

Not even close, and VY is the better runner. Tebow takes advantage of the goal line situations to pad his stats (22 rushing TD's his sophomore year...yikes, but Vince would run around him in the open field)

VY was most definitely the better runner. No arguing that.

But I will argue that Tebow was/is the better passer all day and night.

I don't understand why people think that Tebow can't pass. He holds every Florida HS passing record.
