For whatever reason, I never feel "ready" for October to be here. I look forward to deer season being here, but at the same time, I feel a lot of pressure once it arrives. I feel like there are only so many days and chances to hunt, and I'm not making the most of them. It's a strange thing. I almost feel like the season is over before it has even begun. Beyond that, I'm never really ready from an equipment perspective. I've shot my bow a lot, but never enough. I have no idea where half of my gear is at, none of my clothing is washed, etc. It always seems to take a few hunts before I really get back into the swing of things. With that said, this weekend I'm going to shoot my bow a bunch, wash all my clothes, ozone anything I can't throw in the laundry, charge up all of my camera batteries, and get ready for next Tuesday. It's go time.
I am starting to get into go mode, ordered my hunting bolts. Going to the farm tomorrow and make sure the box blind is useable. I am going to put up a stand too. Probably won't hunt till end of October when things heat up want to get venison in 3 sits or less.
I feel like this year, more than before, I am ready with everything. With going on the elk hunt, I shot all summer and have continued to almost daily. My clothing has already been out and washed and I was up in the saddle last weekend. Normally, I do feel like you @Justin in it takes me a few hunts to feel dialed, but this year I am ready to go!
Yes sir, heading out tomorrow for public myself. Sunday morning I'll be up in a tree. Sent from my SM-A037U using Tapatalk
I've been ready. Put my natural ground blind together back in early July, so whatever deer do come through, they're very used to it being there. I've gotten videos of a nice 8pt and several doe coming through, but they're not coming through while I'm hunting, so far. I have hunted every evening (20 hours) since Opening Day 9/21, and only seen one spike buck. I'm hoping as the pre-rut approaches in a few weeks, activity will pick up in this narrow funnel I'm hunting. It's just a matter of time until my target comes through.
I always feel similar before I start my season. I normally try to have a "dry run" hunt. usually a trip to the cabin with 1 or 2 sits, planning on not killing anything but it gets me back in the flow of things "oh crap I forgot..." situations are addressed there and not the last week of Oct First week of November
I just got shafted ..... had a guy quit on me today (swing shift) ... kinda glad he's gone, but I'm now working 12's until my asst. gets back off of his vacation ... not sure when I'll even get a day off, hoping I dont lose my two vacations the end of Oct. & 2nd week of Nov. ... this totally sucks .... everything is/has been ready to go, stand/sticks, clothes, gear, bow, checked multiple stand tree's/locations and now this guy pulls this stunt .... Ive been thru this before and had to cancel vac. #1 (Halloween week) ....
Bow is still in the shop waiting on string and cable. No intent on going out Oct 1. Typically, it has never been worth the PTO. Still planning on the first weekend. Hoping the bow is ready.
I'm not sweating over the early Oct. hunts .... its the vac's I'm worried about (prime time) and the older I get there is less of these days than behind me .... early Oct. is generally a Doe hunt as it is, dosnt mean I wont take a big buck of course ;0) .... I'll get out a few times before the vac. dates, and I'll enjoy the OT too ($$) .. the closer it is to those vac. dates, the more I'll start sweating because a FNG needs training ...
That's unfortunate timing for sure. Hopefully you'll get a replacement in time for prime time. Your avatar is appropriate for the situation.
the "Official Seal of the Democrat Party" ... yea, I do feel liking whining .... oy vey or Que sera sera, either fits ... :0(
I’m ready for action, I do feel like I’m always behind the 8ball though and try to cram in as many sits as possible . My wife knows how it is and for that I am thankful. The cell cams don’t make it any better. Let’s me know in real time my bad decisions hahaha.
equipment check tomorrow, will be in a central 'Sconnie tree Sunday afternoon and all day Monday. Supposed to be sunny and 80* both days, but it's better than working. Also, I googled "an angry bowhunter" image to use as a meme response and got this result:
Bolts are arriving today, my barn coat is scented up, the box blind is good to go. My official opening day November 1. A bit delayed but celebrating success properly will be worth the wait.
