I'll def. try to take a doe or two this year. The local Pro Shop has a Big Doe Contest (6years running) and first place is a brand new bow, and several other prizes for 2,3,4,etc.

come to think of it, they are the only one's I know of who have a doe contest, anyway, It promotes deer management. Not a lot of people here harvest does, they mostly all go after the bucks and that's it.

Anyone can sit back and brag about that big buck with big ole' horns they killed when ever and where ever but It takes a real man to brag on his doe. lol

it's always good to make sure your bow is dead on by taking that doe, before the big boy shows up!

In the last 15 years only 3 of them years we could buy one anterless tag In my zone besides the regular either sex tag. It's an absolute joke here! Doe numbers are high here, buck numbers are not.

I love shooting deer too much NOT to shoot does...

This year, the goal early on is to self-film some doe-whacking.... I just got in my new Canon HV30 High-Def camcorder last night with Rode shotgun mike, Canon lens hood and extra wide-angle lens to go on top of my new Muddy camera arm and Manfrotto 701 HDV fluid head... My 7-year-old son will be in the tree some with me this year giving it a shot at filming me as well.

I only "know" two does. The one I have targeted, I know from mannerisms and her size. I literally see her once or twice a week in the off season. And double that in season. Seeing and killing are two completely different beasts. The other one at the cabin has a ripped ear. I have trail cam pics for the last three years, she'd be a trophy as well.

Well I had 4 deer in the freezer last year. Now except for a couple whole backstraps that I saved for the grill and a couple pepperoni sticks. The freezer is empty. 2 Doe last year..may need 3 this year!!

Plus with thanks to Greg and Germ...I found out they are fun to shoot :)

After last year, I'm shooting the first nanny that walks in range and I may not stop there. I need a couple for the freezer. I have an uncle that will take all of the deer I don't need. Their family doesn't buy any beef or pork at all.

Plus I usually donate 1 or 2 to the Hunters Feeding the Hungry Program.

My family eats venison weekly. There is no doubt I will be shooting does in the first part of the season.

Somebody has to...being surrounded by high $ outfitters means too many does running around - guys don't pay $3000+ for 5 days of hunting to shoot does...and these guys control some pretty massive acreage.
What they don't realize is that the quality of bucks has been slowly going downhill the last 5-7 years due to the explosion of does (before that time, the local farmers/families would take tons of does during gun season deer drives - hear shots all day long)...now some days of gun season I only hear a few shots.

So Yes, Anyone hunting our property better be up for some doe shooting!

I can see guys shooting does in over/run doe areas, both my prime deer hunting spots i see more bucks then does, so i dont shoot does while i am bowhunting here, more than anything so i am not scenting up my best spots with draging a deer out of a prime buck spot and tipping off the bucks that there is danger around.

I do have other ground that is over run with does that i can shoot does if i need the meat or i want to take a friend, but the main plot is used as a sanctuary that i dont even scout or walk in even during off season and it really fills up just before and during the gun season,
