I'm looking to switch things up here last minute, and relegate my main bow (Sentinel) to backup duties, and take my current backup (09 Marquis) out this season. Only think I need to change is the sight (since it's a semi-broken CJ Dead Nuts Pro 2). I'm looking at the Sword Apex 3rd Plane Micro (currently running on my Sentinel) and the Axcel Armortech HD (non dovetail). I know a lot of you were raving about the Axcel a year or two ago when it was first gaining popularity, so how many are still running it and are happy? Is it truly something that lives up to the adage of you get what you pay for? I like the idea of the protected pins, and the completely tool-less adjustments. I'm not sure I need a dovetail on my hunting only rig, but I'm so used to running them, I'm not sure how I would adjust. I don't believe I want a dovetail Armortech as they tend to be heavy as is, and I don't want to much weight out on the front end.
Matt, I've been using the regular Armortech for the last couple seasons and it's just a flat out terrific sight. I've been a pretty big fan of Spot Hogg sights over the years and have trusted them to some pretty serious competition......this Axcel sight is the most user friendly solid sight I've owned to date. I wouldn't hesitate to use it in serious pin class 3D competition as well as hunting. I don't have a negative thing to say about it.... if it got stolen today and someone gave me the money to buy any new sight, I'd replace it with the same one tonight.
I'm using the Axcel Armotech Vison HD. I special ordered mine direct from Axcel and couldn't be happier. However tooless adjustement is somewhat deceiving. You still have to lossen a set screw (allen head) if you want to adjust each pin individually. IMO: You will have a much better sight picture / alignment with the 2" site housing in conjunction with a large peep.
My opinion mirrors Matt's. I have a custom configured Spott Hogg Hunter Hogg It on my primary bow, and a Armortech HD on my backup bow. Both are great sights. If the Armortech had my preferred custom pin sizes/colors as the Spott Hogg, it would be my go to sight. I prefer a .029 green pin on top and then orange/green .019's alternating from there down and I just haven't gotten time to swap the pins on the Armortech to reflect this.
I'm heading into my 4th season with my Armortech HD and don't have a bad thing to say about it. It's simple, rugged and works great. Much like the Matts, if I had to go out tomorrow and buy another sight I wouldn't hesitate to get another one.
I know I love my Armortech! It's true, to gap, or set up each pin, you will need a small allen wrench, but once this is done, adjusting your vertical or horizontal settings is a breeze. Especially nice if you travel out west into high elevations where one would need to make small adjustments to compensate for the air difference. Couple clicks up or down and all your pins move together and your set to hunt! Tough sight to boot with bright pins! One can custom order their sight as well with any pin configuration, as far as size and color goes. This is what I did anyhow.
Sounds good, guys. The micro-adjust pins and the set screw is much like my CJ Dead Nuts 2, so I'm not concerned about that. Maybe I'll give this a try. Thanks for the input.
