The Chicago Teacher's Union largely runs educational policy in this entire state. Justin lives the next county over (or maybe 2) but the CTU's arm is strong and long.
They won't come out and say it but yes, the teachers union threatened to strike if kids went back because they believe teaching in person is the same as being on the front lines in Afganistan. Even though 85% of parents were in favor of in-person learning, the school board caved. So now my 6 and 8 year olds are at home trying to learn via a computer, which is a total joke. I told my wife we'd be better off pulling them out and homeschooling on our own.
I know I will and in the past have taken heat on here for this, but there is no more corrosive enterprise in this country than Teacher's Unions. First and foremost, they are Communist infiltration/indoctrination groups. Secondarily as such, they are funding machines for the DNC. If I was Trump I would immediately move to de-certify them nationally via Taft-Hartley a' la Reagan and the ATC union
Thing is the democrats in the large cities get their donations from the teachers unions they would never harm that goose they want the golden eggs.
I earned my fifth dislike with my comment about the local teacher's union on another thread. I cannot speak for other school districts, but, yes the local union is making a power move to teach from home. Dismantle the union and our local district would improve drastically. Sorry teachers, and my wife is one (she agrees with me), if the rest of the world can take reasonable precautions and continue working during this time, so can you. Get back in the class room and do the job you were hired to do. Quoting myself: Supposedly, teachers in the Little Rock School District Teachers Union went to the governor's mansion over the weekend and drew body lines on the street and side walk outside with the message "Are you trying to kill us?" That tells you the state of the district I am in. I freaking hate this city. It would fix a lot of the school district's problem if the mayor and superintendent would grow some balls and break the union. Do not rehire a single union teacher, go out and hire all those college education majors looking for their first job. Even with all the COVID stuff going on, they would do a better job than the worthless union teachers.
For those that have to adapt a hybrid model as we do, I have begun a system that might help. My daughter goes 2 days a week in person and the other 3 is expected to work from home. So my plan is I asked 5 other family's to join a "work group" each family takes all the children 1 day out of the 3 every other week. Whomever's "day" it is has all the kids dropped off early and provides breakfast lunch and snack and facilitates learning in conjunction with the other children helping each other. All while family's with both mother and father each have only to take 1 day off a month.
Totally agree. But most are doing day care which has been open here in NY during the entire pandemic. Soooo
Which is why Trump would have to be the one to do it. Would take an absolutely King Kong-sized set of balls to do it 60 days out from the Election though.
