My son's little league baseball started up last night. It was the first practice with various new Covid rules designed to keep us all safe.

One of the "recommendations" is that all parents wear masks while spectating. Keep in mind we are outside. In the wide open. In the sun. We are "socially distanced" from each other. And they still push mask-wearing.

I couldn't help myself and I had to voice my opinion to the coach about this being possibly the stupidest use of a mask outside of wearing one while driving alone in your car. To which his wife told me it was about "setting a good example for the kids". My response was that no, this isn't setting a good example at all. In fact, the excessive wearing of masks is only perpetuating fear among both adults and kids, and is part of a larger societal issue of "safetyism". Parents obsess over protecting kids from things they don't need protecting from, and it's why we have rising amounts of depression and anxiety amongst children and young adults who can't cope with real-life outside of their protective bubble.

Needless to say, I don't think my opinion was well received amongst the outside mask-wearing baseball moms group and their husbands who cower at the thought of standing up to them.

At least he playing in a league, shut down here and never got to play ball.

My son missed his first year of high school basketball(summer). That’s 25% season, he missed a crucial year of aau ball.

If I and parents would have not forked out 320 bucks a week our boys would have played zippo.

This helps me keep the little annoying items in perspective.

I agree - at least we're getting to play.

However, I also feel like it's everyone's responsibility to speak up when they see things like this happening. By itself, it's not a big issue and could be considered an "annoying little thing". The trouble is, there are a million other "annoying little things" that we all tolerate, and add up to be large-scale, bigger issues.

15 days to slow the spread, (we are 136 days into this)
We are only doing this to ensure hospital capacity isn't overloaded
Distance learning is temporary please suffer just a little bit
25% capacity is all we can allow at eating establishments
We need to shut down bars again because 5 percent aren't following the rules (Minneapolis Mayor Frey yesterday, "we arent shutting down bar's just the bar counter...)

Daughters travel soccer team opened up last weekend and scrimmaged each other. My daughter had to miss practice for another obligation. Well the day after the scrimmage one of the kids gets real sick. Waiting on covid results for the poor kid.

I think that we are forgetting to see the task at hand, slow the spread to alleviate the health care systems to be able to provide care to anyone who needs care. Yes there are a couple of places that are not in good shape.

This was never an eliminate the virus task, that is simply impossible.

Approximately 7,700 people die every day in the United States. Death is a fact of life, life is unfair, I may sound like an ******* but I'm not wrong on this.

I’ll put it this way I would kill for the announce right now to wear a mask and watch my kid play some basketball.

Enjoy it !!!! I’ll have a entire different perspective when we can play again.

I was thinking as I drove to work today. What we are seeing as far as behavior, the environment, and now the covid. The world is over populated it will be remedied at some point like it or not.

We have to do a hybrid model as of now. 2 days present 3 online.
Good thing the local private school is planning full time education with no online. Back to paying tuition I guess.

Had to be the covid cautious parent last night. I called my son last night to see what time he would be up, meal requests etc. He tells me that he and the wife are headed out to a bar. I said not if you are coming up here grandson will be over and you can't go to a bar in the cities and come up here.
