Getting interesting here. Talked to mom and she said somebody at work tested positive, a resident. She works at local nursing home as supervisor, they've been on lock down since this all started. No visitors, employees get screened before coming in and have had some even basically lay themselves off to quarantine. They ended up testing everyone, residents and employees, and no other positives. Other local drama, one of the local restaurants/bars announced few days ago she would be opening up because it was either that or she'd lose everything. So of course everyone acted like a idiot and packed the place and put it all over fb. Cops got called, issued a warning and she said later that afternoon on news that buisness was back closed and she'd likely never reopen. (Supposedly I didn't see the interview so just secondhand) There's neen several other places that have been saying they were gonna do same thing. But will likely have same outcome. The bizarre part about the whole thing is now ppl are blasting the local news station saying they ratted out this lady to the cops and govenor and caused everything. Despite the fact this lady put it out there close to a week in advance and a good portion of the ppl that went in were posting it all over social media. The next county over is also stirring the pot, local sherrif and mayor said they weren't goin to enforce any of the governors orders. Not much has happened yet so see how that plays out I guess. And what happens at the end of summer that changes the new status quo of the virus? Still no Vax, no prevailing therapy /treatment, and people still aren't following direction.

nobody said it would be a bad thing- just a nearly impossible thing. Fauci has been "trying" to create an HIV vaccine for 30+ years. No luck. Fauci and countless others have been trying to create a SARS-Covid vaccine for over a decade...no dice. Are you willing to crash the economy and end civilization as you know it for a disease that kills less than 5% of people who get it? Less than 1% of people under 65?
my folks live in FL, which just had a partial re-opening to include restaurants capped at 1/3 capacity...a lot of local restaurants still not opening. They say a lot of their employees make more on unemployment and PPP; and at 1/3 capacity means 1/3 of the customers tipping; many of whom are also living on limited incomes affected by their own under/unemployment. Partial opening isn't good enough.
I would think youd be above presenting this situation as a false dichotomy. But nice try. We were presented with a situation that was and is fluid and as such required gathering information and evidence to first identify what we are dealing with and then make choices based on the best available data we currently have. This never was an either or choice and presenting it in such overly simplistic terms only accomplishes polarization. Which is the goal of course.
yes. 100% Big effing steak and potato and a couple bottles of vino at my favorite independent local joint. And I'd leave the waitstaff a 100% tip, too. Hey look man, I get exposed to potential carriers several times per week. For me it's a matter of time (if I haven't already had it.) I've always been a germophobe (ironic) and I've carried a bottle of hand sani pretty much everywhere I go for years. Long as nobody is breathing all up in my grill, I will be fine. Or I won't. God wants to bring me home or send me to hell that bad then I guess it's my time.
