I don't mean Walker's Game Ear. I mean truly has to wear hearing aids and how has it improved your hunting? When I got my Beltone's about 9 months ago I didn't realize how bad my hearing was. When I finally decided to purchase hearing aids I bought the best that the industry has to offer from Beltone. $7000.00 later and I don't regret a minute of it. I don't know how many deer have slipped past me before but I hear them fine now. I'm still getting used to the directionality of them in the woods but WHAT A DIFFERENCE!
How have hearing aids helped your bowhunting?

I was able to finally hear the deer (and all the other animals and birds). I haven't been wearing them this year yet. Last year I sweated on them (behind the ear) too much and had to get them fixed for $300.00. I don't wear them when walking to the hunting area so that way I can think I am being real quiet LOL (really just don't want to sweat on them) but will put them in once I get my stand up and settle in.

I will likely need to get them soon...I'd also be interested in any considerations for the brand/model you chose.

I haven't been able to hear nearly as much as I have wanted in the woods, and the deer nearly need to be on top of me to hear them first...:(

I went with Beltone. I got their top of the line model. They are Bluetooth enabled. I can get my cell phone through them, listen to my music and audio books wirelessly. They have 12 volume + and 8 volume -, a background noise reduction mode for in restaurants and such and they also have I think 5 more programs that can be loaded.
You should first go to an ear, nose and throat doctor to verify that there is no physical impairment. Then go to an audiologist for a thorough hearing test. Discuss with the audiologist needs and options. You can get excellent hearing aids from various companies, though I do not recommend Miracle Ear.

I got mine earlier this summer and have hunted with them a few times now. Takes a little getting used to hearing all the "NEW SOUNDS" in the woods I was missing. But some of those squawking birds I could do without hearing if you know what I mean. My hearing loss is mostly in the higher pitch sound range (like my wife's voice, Ha HA) so I'm not sure how many deer sounds I've been missing, but I think they do help with all sounds to a great extent.

I have hadhearing aids since I was 21. When I was getting out of the Marines they told me I hadthe hearing of a 65 yo. I have tinitis in both ears and the ringing is annoying as heck. I have not worn my hearing aids in many years, butI think it is time I start again.I would love to be able to hear game moving in the woods.but I would miss not using my selective hearing with my wife.

    What?.........WHAT!!

I need them. Can hear little out of my left ear and it makes locating the direction of sound very difficult. I have tinnitus in it terrible. Constant loud ringing. Bothers me most during turkey season. Hard to get on distant gobbling birds unless they are really ripping it up so I can spin around and listen to them gobble several times. My right ear is weak but no tinnitus. My wife is getting tired of repeating herself and I think I miss a lot of what is going on in group conversations around me.

I dont need hearing aids and I pass my hearing tests for my commercial drivers license, but after spending over 10 years on the back of a drill rig I can not hear animals moving through the woods as good. I got a pair of hearing enhancers last year and it is amazing getting to listen to the woods like I was younger. It definitely makes the whole hunting experience more enjoyable.

I have bilateral progressive heredity hearing loss. It started when I was 25 and now I'm 35. I have to wear hearing aids at my job and when I'm hunting.

One thing about hearing aids is that it is NOT a complete fix like glasses are. They only help.

Bruce, did you ever think about in the ear canal aids? I can wear mine grouse hunting and that is walking through some really thick stuff.

I really like Starkey and Siemens hearing aids. I've had Phonak and they were OK.

Another bit of strong advice is to see an actual Audiologist. Not just a HIS (hearing Instrument Specialist) for your hearing care.

Do the ear canal aids channel the sweat away?

I use dot by resound hearing aids. They are small.

I definitely recommend a dry and store for hearing aids. As I mentioned, sweat, moisture, is bad for them and this thing drys them out very well. Worth every dime and more.

It is a little cheaper on Amazon.

Yes I belive they do. I've had both (BTE and ITC) and they seem much more protected in the ear.

I'm sure it all comes down to personal preference.

I almost got some ITC this year for that reason but I was real unsure of not being able to hear some ambient, unamplified sounds. Maybe next year.

Bruce, some ITC models have a directional microphone system that helps with that. Also everyone's hearing loss is different so what works for one person may not work for another. I can tell you I personally love ITC hearing aids. I think you will also.

I completely lost hearing in my right ear ten years ago during a surgery. I am now old enough to be losing my left side as well and just got a pair of BiCros hearing aids. They help the hearing in my left ear. At the same time the unit on my right side takes the sound that hits my right ear and sends it via bluetooth to the aid in my left ear so I hear it in that ear. It's like a whole new world again being able to hear what I have been missing for ten years. I still can't tell direction so need to look all around if I do hear something. But it is MUCH better that before.

Just a word of advice from an old man to all you young pups out there. PROTECT you ears while you are young so you can still use them when you get older. Try a week with foam ear plugs in your ears if you don't believe that it sucks not to be able to hear.

    Amen brother.
My hearing loss is genetic. My grandmother wore hearing aids, my mother wears hearing aids and my older brother wears hearing aids.
