I am shooting 64.2lbs with 29"DL, shooting 340 Beman Bone Collectors (9.5gpi). I was looking to go heavier with my setup (switched from carbon express blue streak at 7.4gpi), and was reccomended going to the 340 instead of 400. I realize there is a difference in gpi between the 340 and 400, but the suggestion was made by the shop based on draw weight, not arrow weight. anyone else in the same weight range shooting the 340 instead of 400?
My DL is a inch shorter that yours but I tried the 340s for the weight but didnt work out for me. Kept wanting to kick out so I went back to the 400s.
I should also add that my arrow length is 29" also, lengthened from 27.25" when shooting the carbon expresses. I went that long to ensure riser clearance on fixed blade BH's. hit the riser with my muzzy mx-3 blades at 27.25"
So my arrow weight before was something like 355, now it's like 425. Big change. Those suckers are heavy. They do group nice though. Went from 292fps to 268.
I shoot a 30 inch arrow, 30 dl and 74lbs dw. I use the 300 spine groups well, and the penitration is awesome.
Pull 65# @ 30" and shooting 340 Easton FMJ weighing 11.3 gpi with 125 gr Muzzy's. Pass throughs are not a problem.
I guess not, paper tuned great. hated to see my speed drop that much, but gaining tons of penetration. better suited to hunt both whitetail AND hogs without changing setups.
And there is the reason why your arrows are performing like the 400's....you increased the arrow length almost 2 inches, thereby offsetting the stiffer spines of the 340's.
I did the same with about the same set up on my Mathews. Just had to re-adjust my site but they are nice arrows.
Yea, they are practically the same arrow as an Axis, but a hair cheaper. Originally they had me try shooting some "da torch" arrows (hate that name), and they were awesome. Guy at the shop let me try his, they had a 75grain brass insert in them. Tons of FOC, but it flew awesome. I was set on buying da torches, until i saw the price. $172 a dozen! holy smokes thats a lot of dough! I settled for the Beman's, they were way cheaper. I couldn't use the brass insert though, even though they make a 50grain one (which is a cut down 75grain brass insert) because my total arrow weight was already getting up there. I wanted to try those brass inserts on a setup, do some experimenting.
I am shooting 31" DL, 65#, 330IBO speed bow. I was shooting 340s w/ an 8.7 gpi weight. I then tried some older 340s that are 9.8 gpi and they group much better. So same size arrows but different weight made a big diff. I've been looking at the Bone Collectors b/c my new bow doesn't like the new arrows I bought last year.
