I spend more time in a deer stand Oct 25-Nov 25 than most people do the entire season. There are also other things I like to do in the early Fall besides hunt deer and I live 150 miles from the hunting land. I used to hunt the entire season but every bigger buck I've ever killed has been in Oct or Nov. You do it your way and I'll do it mine.
I agree, I had one year I hunted a spot that's like half way into my area that I normally hunt come rut time. I sat about 20 yards from the edge of this field that was off the road. Come to find out on the other side of the road back in the wood out of site was a small cornfield maybe 3-4 acres that I did not know about. Needless to say, I sat 3 sits of the first 2 weeks of the season and saw 8+ different bucks. 8:00 always seemed to be the magic time. They were going to that corn field in the evening and I would see them coming back in to bed the next morning. I remember the last buck I saw was a 120ish 8 point about 80 yards out in the field going in the opposite corner. I grunted at him a few times to get his attention. Kinda cool when you get their attention. I ended up turning him around and he came to about 30 yards but couldn't get a shot. ....oh the memories
I got one more stand to set up ( been busy with our baby girl born June 1st) and then I'm all ready to go. Can't wait.
this will be my first year bow hunting been rifle hunting for over 20 years...and I caint hardly contain my excitement!!!! counting the days till September 12!!!!
