Yesterday afternoon i made my first bow hunt. Right before dark the mosquitoes got so bad i couldnt stand them. hadnt seen a deer, had a bout 5 minutes left till dark. So i got fed up and packed up. I looked around there was nothing around. Lowered my bow to the ground look up to grab my backpack and what do you know, a 6 point is looking straight at me, 20 yards perfect broadside shot. Popped up outa nowhere! Stared at me for awhile then took off. Cant wait to hit the woods tomorow afternoon! Guess this is why they call it hunting and not shooting. Personally i rather bowhunt since it seems as more of a challenge. Anyone else has bad luck like me?
yesterday morning I decided to get out of my stand and set up my decoy at 830 am. I get it put together and go to step around a tree and a real nice 9 pt is standing about 50yards away just staring at me. Needless to say,I should have kept my but in place. It sure is exciting though.
Dude, this evening (around 1430) i was checking a scrape and getting ready to move my blind when BOOM! I spooked the **** out of the buck i have been patterning. he came out of nowhere. due to the nasty thick underbrush i never saw him but i came within 15 yards. ive been getting embarrassed by 4 doe lately too. they seem to be messing with me....
Cell Phones I was at my ladder stand and I hear my cell phone go off(sound is motorcycle taking off)take cell phone out of my pocket I say who in the &^%&*(( is calling me now.I look at phone no body called I put it back rings again now I'm ticked but no body is calling now with phone in hand I here the noise again. Now I know that noise,it's a buck standing 10 yards behind me blowing.NO,I did not get a shot just saw that it had horns as it turned and ran into the thicket.Dang cell phones.
Happen to me this weekend. I took my cousin on a youth hunt and as we were packing up a spike came out. Lucky we got back in the blind with out home seeing up. It's what I love about hunting
I think it's fair to say that if it hasn't happened to all of us it will. That's why they call it bowHUNTING not bowKILLING. The highs and lows are what keeps us coming back for more. I've been at it for 45 years and still bumble it sometimes. Like yesterday, I had a nice doe walk right into my shooting lane. Not seeing or hearing anything else I took the doe. If I had waited less than 5 minutes I would have had a nice 8 pt finish walking right where she was. I didn't even know he was right behind me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I doubt there is a long time hunter here who has not experienced this. It happens more often I bet than any of us realize. A deer sneaks in the last few minutes of light while we have decided to pack it up, that same deer moves out and we never notice. Hmmm.........rear view mirrors on the tree?))))) Dave
yeah it sucks and it does happen friday morning november 5 great frost 30 degrees in laurel, county ky over slept til 7:30 got to my stand at 7:45 go to walk in the field and its full of deer so we waited til they ran then i was climbing up the ladder and my buddy says theirs a deer watching you right now and i turn around and there it is 30 yds away first time weve seen deer this year
Well it aint happened to me but I'm sure I got my day coming.....The only moments I worry about is getting up on stand and getting down. I'm sure we all take that chance when we wind up the day or mid morning...
@jhedger im in south louisiana, lately it gets cold for about 2-3 days then hot for about a week. On a hot day the mosquiters are nothing nice!
Get a Therma cell. You will not regret it. I hate early in the season when the flys, mosquitos, and gnats are out. I have found a thermacell will work on the flys and mosquitos, but does nothing for the gnats. I hate the little bastards.
