How many of you chase Walleye when not hunting?

    How Long?
What technique (Trolling, Jigging, Casting, Handline)?
    What Lakes?
    What Lures?
    What Colors?

I've been going after Walleye for about 6 years now and I really enjoy trolling for them on Erie and Kale Charlevoix. In the Spring we spend about 3 weeks on the Detroit River jigging during the spawn. After the silver bass move in we move out to the big waters and use a lot of stick baits like Koppers, Reef Runner, and Warrior. Mostly stick to natural Smelt and Perch colors but have had some luck with chartreuse and green.

No Walleyes down here to speak of. This is largemouth bass territory. I used to fish pretty hard, but haven't done much in the last 5 years or so. Just not enough time anymore.

Only through the ice these days. Been fishing Devils Lake, ND for 20 years. Mostly jigging with Buckshot Rattle Spoons in the perch colors but also do all right with Tip-ups and minnows. No wall hangers but don't get skunked much either. Mostly use my single man flip over or a two man Otter flip over. Bought a wheelie and have used it for two years now. It is just easier to be mobile using the flip overs.

Here is a normal catch for a half day trip.

I would need a bigger auger to fish Erie through the ice.

Ahh the Minnesota state fish. Before last year I had never caught a walleye... Caught a few of them through the ice and now I'm hooked.

I only fish Leech Lake here in Minnesota, and we don't have nearly the size of walleyes as you do in Eerie. Mostly go after the eater fish. Here are a few shots from this year.

Open water we use the methid of "Rip Jigging" or Long line snap jigging - The basic technique involves slowly trolling a jig + Minnow 50-75 feet behind the boat while frequently and aggressively jigging the bait forward. Some people think you're crazy doing it because it looks so goofy... But it simply puts fish in the boat.

I have not put much effort into fishing the last couple of years, bobber fishing for walleyes is one of my favorites.

    Love walleye fishing!

I catch probably 150+ walleyes a year ice fishing. Keep a couple between 14"-18" to eat each time out when i'm catching some and the rest go back.

Only summer fishing I really do is either night bobber fishing or casting on a nearby river. Jig head and white mister twister is the ticket for me casting.

Biggest is 26" through the ice.

My parents have a boat on the Maumee River and we typically make a trip or two out to Lake Erie for Walleyes every year. The boat is not set up for trolling so we drift with mayfly rigs, Erie Dearies, and weapons.

Love springtime walleye fishing. Jig and minnow in 6 feet of water, deadly.
