I used to be all wrapped up in getting in the book, and once I got there with a few, I realized its just a bunch of numbers. Now I still have my own goals as far as size goes, but I don't worry about the score or the book so much anymore. I'll save the money it costs to enter it, and put it towards my taxidermy bill.
I like the idea of it but could care less about entering something of my own shall I get the opportunity......I take the memory and the trophy of the hunt as a personal thing that I only care to share with friends and family and some of you yahoos....books are cool to look at and 40 bucks isnt bad for what you get....but id rather take 40 bucks and buy some beer build a fire and yak it up with some good people as a celebration...thats my thing Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk 2
I have one in there but I had forgotten about having to pay the fee/dues but I did. I think it's cool to have one in a record book. I've taken quite a few over the years that were actually better than the one that's in there. I thought one was enough but I'd like to have an entry in the B&C records and don't have...my best one missed by about 4" net.
I've been a member for close to 15 years. Before I even got anything that would qualify I became a member. Its not just about entering animals. To me that's a small part of the club. They protect mine/your rights as bow hunters. They do a ton of donating money and time to alloy of stuff to. Far from elitist this club is. Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk
Sorry for the above quote, Steve. I just couldn't stop myself. :D While I have no interest in entering a buck in the books, I'm sure you're right about the good they do for hunters, and it's a valid reason to be a member. I'm serious, though, when I say that I could drop a 180" buck tomorrow and I wouldn't enter it in any book. That's just not why I hunt. I sure don't have anything against anyone who has that as a goal, though.
For those mentioning the annual dues...it costs money to enter an animal into P&Y but becoming a member is optional.
I totally get where your coming from. I have nothing against people not being a part of the club. Like I said in my post earlier I was a member 3 or 4 years prior to me getting an animal to make books. So as you can see I didn't join because of the books. I joined because I wanted to be part of something that supported us bow hunters and fights for our rights as bow hunters. As far as the lighted nick issue I think its BS it didn't pass but I also think i know why it didn't/hasn't (yet). IMO the club thinks if it let's one lighted thing in EVERYTHING lighted will want in. There trying to keep the tradition in bow hunting but with the huge technology in bows its going to be tough. Other then the lighted nock issue I stand 100% by their side on their rules of fair chase. The lighted nock issue will pass in time. Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk
In all honesty I could see myself being a member of the Pope and Young Club for that reason, Steve. I have to admit that I don't understand their ruling on lighted nocks, though, but it has no bearing on me. I tried Lumenoks once and they didn't hold up to the pressure a 70# bow puts on a heavy arrow. Still, I have to wonder how the Pope and Young Club would feel about my Trijicon Accupin bow sight considering the pin will glow in the dark for the next 8 years or so because of the radioactive tritium it has in it. It's not electronic or electrical, though! :D
People who ***** about the P&Y club make me chuckle. They are a pay by membership/entry club... They can make their own rules based on their own beliefs. Have a problem with them? Find another group to enter your buck/bull/etc.. into. SCI? The electronics rule will pass in time just as let off percentage did. FWIW, I think the SCI scoring system is a lot more practical. I have a few animals that would make the P&Y book but doubt I would ever enter anything unless it was top 5. It's just a piece of paper.
If NJ would allow the Vendett range finder I would have it on my rig next to my sight light and lighted nocks
I wanted to get a buck in the book bad until I actually shot one, then I didn't care if it was entered or not. I'm not sure why, but that's how it worked for me.
I don't personally care about entering an animal in THEIR book. It's their book and their rules, if you don't agree with THEIR rules, then move on to something else. However, I do want to kill something that would qualify for their book but it would never be entered. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk
Indifferent to P&Y - To each their own. Probably would use the fourty bucks for diesel or Broad heads.
