Why would Stan Pott's pay $1,000's a year on a private lease in West Kentucky, when he has access to over a 100,000 acres of public land (Land Between the Lakes) he could hunt for the price of a tag? His lease is less then 20 miles from LBL!!!

It's because he's not a very good hunter and his chances of getting it done at LBL are slim to none at best.

It's because it is his job. He can't spend a month hunting public land in KY like everyone else. He must kill x number of deer a year to even produce a show. His private land lease lowers hunting pressure and ideally will decrease the amount of time on stand needed to have an encounter w a big buck.

Who really knows how good these guys would be on public land? They aren't hunting for that aspect of hunting, they are doing it as a job and dead down wind isn't going to fork over 50k a year for his show if he is spending a month chasing public land deer not killing anything.

Results = Paycheck as with most industries......and that is exactly why I don't envy their job. It would ruin it for me.

A month to kill a big buck at LBL!?!?! Wow!!! If that where the case, lol...I would say he sucks big time.

I could hand pick a dozen or more locals, that have never set foot on LBL, that could kill a big buck there in 5-7 days max. I just find it strange that Stan would rather spend $1,000's on a lease instead. He must have to hunt a high deer density, target rich environment with food plots, funnels and feeders to get it done. Thats about the only explanation I can come up with.

Making broad generalizations regarding everyone who hunts on TV or is considered a "pro" would seem pretty ignorant.

There are no doubt some "tv pros" who are excellent hunters...others who are no better than average...and probably even some that just plain suck.

Some of these people only do guided hunts...others seem to mainly hunt their own land and do everything themselves.

There are a lot of variables to consider.

This ^^ It's just like professional golfers. They play a game and make a lot of money doing it, but to them it's not a game. It's work, and by it being a job it takes some, if not most, of the fun out of it. I like enjoying golf, but I'm not sure I'd want to do it for a living.

I dont understand this statement??? I dont know anyone who has that much time to hunt.

I thought everyone else was a lot like me. Our season has been in for 21 days, I've had the opportunity to go hunting once this year and only had about an hour to hunt then. Because I have a job and its not bow hunting, LOL!!!

My point is, his job isnt to get out there and spend time on stand and complete difficult hunts. His job is to kill big animals, several every year, and do it in an entertaining/product friendly way. This is not conducive to public land hunting. Not saying a show couldn't be done that way, I'm just saying it doesn't eliminate those on shows from being able to get it done on public land on their own.

You hunt for different reasons than Stan Potts. You for the challenge of killing a public land buck, him for killing multiple big bucks every year on film. Doesn't mean you couldn't do what he does, and it doesn't mean he couldn't do what you do. Just different challenges. Yours seems more fun to me personally, his is more of a job.

Jeez, here we go. I work with a guy who pisses and moans about the pros, and rants about how they wouldn't be able to hunt their way out of a wet paper bag on his lease, they're all prima donna spoiled celebrities...ad nauseum. Most of those guys started out at the bottom, with regular jobs, then worked to where they are now. Waddell was a construction worker who won turkey calling contests before Bill Jordan discovered him so to speak. Nick Mundt worked in construction and was an elk guide until starting as a cameraman with realtree, ans I forget what Stan Potts did, but he got discovered too as he worked a regular job everyday. Always someone pissn about somthing someone else has. By the way, Looser=loser, gullable=gulible, and hipe=hype

I cant stand any of them to be honest, but Stan Potts killed 2 200 inchers on public before anyone knew who he was! Those deer are the ones that started his career as a pro. So he can hunt, Waddel can shoot, but beside the milk river he hunts with guides every where he hunts. Like other have stated though, they are just pushing product thats their job. It would just be nice to see one of these guys do a show on public land just to quiet guys like me that say they couldnt handle hunting public. I would love to see Waddle hunt Georgia public for deer and kill a giant, he would shut me up.

Hell No. They might be smarter. I mean, they are lucky to have connections and networks that provide them much better places to hunt. I DARE any of them to invite me to hunt the exact locations they do and I bet I or also any decent hunter and have similar success.

What to you say? Any takers. I know that I can be avaliable the whole month of November. Call me at 270-316-2611.

I have Pro Staffed not field staffed for some major companys and had good relationships with them , i stayed with a few and walked away from some for my own personal reasons , i have to personally say against the actuall so called profesionals i'll run neck and neck with any them , Here is a prime example , Michael Waddell hunts a farm 15 miles north of me in Scottsburg Indiana , He killed a few nice ones and keeps coming back each year to try and do better , well he has walked off the property for the last two years empty handed , infact they viewed the one hunt on one of last years shows , I have killed 4 bigger deer than is biggest of all off that farm in the last 4 years and to find out last year he killed a doe with a muzzelloader before he left just to kill something.........just something i wanted to share with you guys that we normal average hunters can get the job done hunting in normal average everyday conditions .

    ^^ longest sentence I have ever witnessed:tu:

People just aren't understanding the ropes these guys have to jump through to produce a good show, year after year. To dedicated guys ( Us) watching a public land hunt with true struggles would be exciting. To your general public, however, watching a guy struggle for two weeks for kill a 120" deer in PA would be rather boring.

It's all about keeping your audience entertained. I would absolutely love too see you "undercover professionals" on the spotlight and see how you react. Who wouldn't kill to be in the limelight and have a hunting product named after you.

As far as saying they only get these hunts because they have connections and money.....No ****! They weren't born this way. Building connections opens opportunities.

I look at it like " professional wrestling, WWF or WWE" whatever its called. I cant stand that crap but they stay in business because millions do watch it. They dont watch it because its a true test of skill and strength, they watch it because they see it as entertainment. Same for the hunting shows, its entertainment, nothing else! The only
reason the shows are made is because people want to see huge deer, deer that aren't typically found on
public land. If they were only shooting bucks the average hunter has access to then no one would watch because
its the same as their hunt. People want to see those huge deer, it makes them dream about if they killed one that
big. I think the hunting shows have gone to crap personally, but there are millions out there who dont or else they wouldnt still be making them. Its about making money (same reason we go to work) and putting out a show thats entertaining. Nothing we watch on TV depicts life as we live it, thats because it would be boring!

You said it all! Because TV must be fantasy, rather than reality! If an average hunter like myself spends 6 wks in PA hunting hard and finishes the season with a 70" deer, was I less successful than the "pros" that hunt 13 private leases, guided hunts, or go to Africa. I'm not pizzin and moanin' here, just keeping it real. I like to watch the pros and see the big bucks, and wish I had some hanging on the wall, but at the end of the day, the 125" 8 pt I have hanging on the wall (public land by the way) makes me just as good as they are, if not better. JMHO!

Basically without starting a pissing match what i was simply saying is Waddell was right here hunting the same deer i do and he couldnt get the job done , it has nothing to do with names on products and tv air time , and basically i would love to see them come down to the real world and shoot 120'' deer like probally 80% of the hunting population does , i rather watch shows where ther hunting hard and miss than watch them shoot 150'' deer every week ..........i have nothing against any of them i'm just answering on this thread question.
