I have been shooting for about 4 months now, and I dumped my arm guard. I just take the occasional bruising slap. Any of you still use one?

i use it for hunting, to push my clothes down.

i don't use it for spots or 3D. never gotten string slapped with my own bows though…and i've been shooting for a while.

you sure you have the correct draw length or shooting with proper form?

I have never used one and have never hit my arm. If this is a regular occurrence for you you draw length is probably a bit long.

I know I have the proper form, but no idea on the length.

hmmmm…if your bow hand is slightly bent so as to not have your forearm protruding toward the bow, then i'd say to go to your local shop and have them check your draw length (DL). a lot of people try and opt for the longer for the extra speed/power or some just don't know better.

here's a slightly more detailed one

there's plenty of stuff out there, and definitely well worth the time to get it right. your groups will shrink and your forearm will thank you

No arm guard or bow wrist sling - At times I do get bit...shot a 3D last weekend and drew blood - once. I am not a fan of the arm guard but do think it is a good idea. Getting bit hurts.

I use a sleeve when I hunt, but never used one. Like said above, your DL may be too long.

No but when I shoot a lot in one day, my form gets a little weak and I will slap myself once or twice.

Only when hunting to keep my sleeves from getting hit and throwing my shot off.

I use one when hunting sometimes also, when its one of my bigger, baggier, and heavier jackets just to keep it tight and away from my bowstring.

I only use it to keep my jacket tight arround my arm so it dont have to deal with the string catching my jacket.

I keep an ace bandage in my pack (the small one they make for your wrist). If my jacket/coveralls look particularly bulky that day I’ll wrap the bandage around my arm. It’s small and doesn’t take up much room in my pack. Plus I guess it’s good to have an ace bandage just in case. Hopefully I’ll never need it for anything other than getting my sleeve out of the way.

When I am practicing indoors or during the summer I never wear one. That way I get a quick reminder if I ever let my form slip any. During deer season or when I have bulky clothing I always wear one. Had the string grab my sleeve before when I was younger and thought I knew it all and missed a deer or two.
