    Hey fellas,

After my bust this year with the whitetails, its time to start up coyote hunting. I managed to get one so far, but my question is, what type of calls do you guys use?

All of my coyote hunting has came from dogs, but since my uncle went south for a month, i need another way to get to the coyotes.

I have never called in coyotes before. any tips, secrets, calls, stratgies? that you have done before that seems to work?

    P.S. ill be using a .22-250.

If you're hunting a pressured area, like I am...

Don't even bother with using "rabbit in distress" type calls too much.

Use yips, howls, and other coyote vocalizations...you know, the stuff that no one else hardly uses.

    Also, you could always bait.

I do.... all called in with distress calls, a mouse squeakier, breeding howls, locator howls, challenge howls/barks done with mouth calls! Too much fun! My best tip is to keep shooting until they stop moving!

I use the Phantom Pro Series game call from Extreme Dimensions. It's a great unit. My best advice is to hunt the wind like you would a whitetail. Like Kyle said, if your hunting pressured yotes then mix up your calling. Coyotes are quick learners

    Thanks for them help guys!

    AWESOME pics bowhunting!

Have you guys ever used electronic calls? I have been looking at the johnny stewart calls and all of them have good ratings? any experience with them?
Also, is it better to hunt out of them woods and call them into the open or in the woods. I have heard yotes like to hang out about ten to twenty yards into the woods without coming out?

with the dogs i never had to know all this since i mainly relied on the dogs to do the hunting.

My self, I just started calling in the woods a few weeks ago hoping to bring in a fox or coyote! I have always set up on field edges and fence rows with great luck. Gotta be patient, I would get one to come in every 8 - 10 sets. Gets frustrating but when you least expect it, bam...... there a Coyote in front of ya! Good times! I really enjoy hunting them at night under a full moon with some snow on the ground, I'll be out later this week hunting them all night long!

I love it. I'm getting 125-150 yards out of the remote if you hang the caller on a tree branch, and the sound and volume is great. I wish it could hold more than 24 sounds on a memory card, but I've got multiple cards setup now and can change them in about 30 seconds.......so it's not that big of an inconvenience. Great deal for the $$$ in my opinion.

My two best pieces of advice have already been given.

-Hunt the wind just like a deer
-Mix up the calling. They learn quick.
