Game officer here has photos of several cross bred white tail/ Mulley bucks. Where we have quantities of both species, our laws are different from one to the other. When I asked how the law interprets this, he said we count it either way. They want photos to send to the state biologist for records. Actually we have 2 other species as well, Blacktail and Columbia Whitetail. The Blacktail, once believed to be just a smaller version of the mule deer, is actually a different species. DNA has proven it. The Columba whitetail, although a shirt tail relative of the regular whitetail, is also a seperate species. Blacktail and Columbia Whitetail are found west of the Cascade Mts and Whitetail and Mule deer on the east side.
