This thread makes me want to drive out to my hunting area to check, but I didn't notice anything last week.
We had some green droppings by the oaks a few weeks back when dry period hit. They were loaded beyond typically capacity for around here thanks to the extremely wet and great spring...so survival mode kicked in and they dropped. Still forming though here...expect dropping to really start in mid-september from the looks of them.
Check out the acorns--usually early falling acorns are infected with worms and will fall early !!! look for little hole
Floaters are bad sinkers are good when it comes to acorns. If there is a worm infestation it is wide spread. There is a back road thru town I often take and under the white oaks there are acorns in the streets. I have even tried one fully ripe and kinda sweet.
It's a bumper crop of acorns this year and they are dropping at my place in Mn too. I checked on my food plots the other day and it sounded like it was raining out there. Hopefully they clean them all up and hit my food plots hard this year!
We have two groves of sawtooth oaks here on the ranch and they have a really good crop this year as well. I'll get pics the next time I'm over there. They aren't even close to dropping yet though they are well developed. They look like a mini-bur oak acorn.
Checked out some oaks around where I hunt and could not find 1 white oak with any appreciable acorns on it. They where crazy with acorns last year but this year hardly any.
some of our red oaks are dropping some. on our walk last night, i did see some burr oaks loaded with acorns
was out yesterday and the deer have moved off my minerals and now are in the acorns. they were like marbles in places. seems really early. cherries are bombing down now too.
Wasn't in an area with a lot of oaks while scouting today but there were some acorns on the ground. Really messing up my early October plans Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Same here in SE Ohio. I had a bumper crop on one of the farms I hunted last year that really made it hard to pattern the bucks last October. They were randomly feeding on them nightly and would not commit to the same travel routes. Really frustrating.
Well, I checked my two mature white oaks and found some of these under them both. I think they got knocked off from the rain storm from yesterday, but I'm hoping it means they're up there and will come down in a week or two as chestnut brown delights for the deer. I did notice some very fresh droppings under these trees as well.
